1: We're giving up Jesus Montero for him! Montero has struggled a little this season but posted an .829 OBP in the month of June, so he's certainly coming back. The catcher could seriously become a star in Seattle, he has the talent. I'll root for him still, not only because I bought his auto for $20 one time.
2: The worst thing possible about this deal is that Lee is a free agent next year! The Yankees, instead of trying to get him after this season are going for him now, which means he could possibly leave NY if some other team puts down a better offer.
3: What will we do with Phil Hughes? We do need a guy in our bullpen that's consistent, but Hughes was getting the job done this year as a starter. Do we need another left handed starting pitcher? I could see the Yankees putting Hughes back into the bullpen especially because of the ignored innings limit he's had this year. The Yankees wouldn't have to worry about Hughes going over. People have also said Javier Vazquez could be traded if the Yankees get Lee, but I wouldn't want that to happen now that Javier is actually pitching pretty well for us.
I don't know if I'm all for this deal, I really like Cliff Lee but I don't know if this makes any sense. Why do we need another starter when our starting pitchers may have been the best of any team's in the first half of this season? I'm all for having Cliff Lee in pinstripes, but couldn't you wait until next year? Leave your comments letting me know what you think the Yankees should do. See Ya!
