Update 5/31/09

Hey guys, I'm a little behind right now but not for long. Last Wednesday, after my family saw the new movie, "Night At The Museum 2: Battle Of The Smithsonian" (which was a good movie), my dad took me over to the card shop and we bought some stuff. Before I put on that recap I want to say that my undiscovered brand old microphone is working and I am able to narrate my movies. Here is a video from Movie Maker I made recently:

PLEASE WATCH

Thanks for looking, and see ya!
(By the way, the reason why Rocky's theme song was in both videos was because I watched it with my dad recently and downloaded it afterwards:)

Suggestions for 4th Quarter Spectacular

Hey guys, Drew back here with a question. What do you want me to break? I will certainly do group breaks when I get out of the house, but that will be a long while. So, for now, you'll just have to sit back and look at the cards I pull.

So, my point, is that the End of the School Year is coming and I don't know what to break! I will put a poll on the sidebar for it, because I am now assuming that you want me to continue the video highlights, so that will be there. I will probably choose one or two of the top boxes to break, but I may add my take into it as well. Please, if you vote on this poll, choose by your experience and luck with the product and don't pick the worst options unless you really like the product.

Alright, lets see, what to break, what to break. I know! I'll go over to Blowout Cards and do some process of elimination. The next baseball product to come out is 09 UD SP Legendary Cuts, and Allen & Ginter will be out around that time, but I'll break A&G some other time.

2009:
Topps Series 1: Too old, no
Topps Series 2: A possibility
UD Series 1: Too old, no
UD Series 2: I'll just get a blaster and I'll be fine, so no.
Heritage: Too much $ for 1 garbage hit, no
Goudey: No
Piece of History: Want to open one.
Bowman: No
Bowman Jumbo: Too much $
Finest: No
Tristar: No
UD First Edition: Cheap Set, no
Attax: Heck no
Spectrum: No
SPX: Nice but too much $

2008:
Maybes:
Donruss Threads: Possibly
Heroes: Maybe
Masterpieces: Maybe

2007:
Possibilities: Turkey Red, Elements, Goudey, Masterpieces, Sweet Spot, Sweet Spot Classic

2009 Baseball Product Overall Reviews

Hey guys, Drew back here with my overall ratings of the 2009 Baseball Card Products. The ratings are out of 10 stars, ten being a fantastic product and 0 being a horrible one. Here we go:

2009 Baseball Cards

Topps Series 1- ******** 8 out of 10
Why: Topps really started the hobby year out great! The cards had WAY nicer photography than last year's horror flick they called the baseball card! Nice to see a simple but nice design on the cards as well! I like this product a lot, and the inserts are top-notch, with the Turkey Reds and the Legends of the Game inserts. The WBC Classic stuff is nice too, but one thing I don't like is do you notice what I notice? I constantly pull the same League Leaders cards in almost every pack I open!

Topps Heritage- *******7 out of 10
Why: This product I haven't gotten much of, but I've seen enough to say that this is a heck of a set collectors product! I really am not a set collector but the design is really nice and the inserts are well done. One thing I would have to say is that the prices are extremely high for something that won't pay you back, and they should lower the prices $25-$35 lower than the $90-$100 they sell it for, and that still won't pay it back. The "Clubhouse Collection" game used look terrible, and spending $100 on a box that pays for $25 total is not good, but it is nice, and many collectors would be happy to see the price lowered.

Topps Attax- ***** 5 out of 10
This isn't really a set for me. The games look pretty fun, way more fun than any Yugi-oh or Pokemon game out there, but it is cheap. The cards aren't thick or aren't glossy, so they feel like the Sports Illustrated Kids cards in the magazines. I've gotten one pack of this, and I have to say that the parallels are much nicer and Topps should make a set based on them. The code cards are pretty ugly as well.

Topps Finest- ****** 7 out of 10
Why: This grade would be better with a better rookie class. This year, the best player is David Price with Travis Snider in there as well, and after that, you're lef with garbage like Bobby Parnell or Phil Coke. The letter patch autographs are very nicely done, unlike last years Topps Letterman Football's letter patch autographs. The base cards are really nice, and I have seen some reall nice pulls out of this before! The parallels are the highlight of the boxes, and I really like the gold one! The cards are awfully expensive though with a slim chance at a sweet card, so unless you want to be this guy, I wouldn't risk buying this product.

Bowman (Including Jumbo)- ****** 6 out of 10
Why: Again, last year had a WAY better rookie class, and this year's weak one really effects cards. Hopefully, someone steps up like Travis Snider and we could have another big name rookie. Anyway, this product design is short, sweet, and is definitely similar to past Bowmans. The chrome cards look very nice as usual, and I can't wait for that individual product to come out, but for now, this will do.

Upper Deck (including 1st Edition)- ******** 8 out of 10
Why: This year's UD is starting to make a statement. It has hid behind Topps 09 Series 1 for a very long time, but I think they are even. Both have nice designs, the game used goes to UD, the parallels go to Topps, and they both have equal prices and results. The photography once again is great in this product, and I think it should deserve more. This years Starquests are nice, followed by the O-Pee-Chee Inserts, the Rivals inserts, the 20th Anniversary set, and many more reasons to collect this product!

Upper Deck Spectrum- **** 4 out of 10
Why: Purple Cards? Cheech Martin Autographs? End of story.

Upper Deck Piece of History- ******* 7 out of 10
Why: This product is very nice. The base card design is fantastic, and the historical moments are well selected. The inserts are extremely sharp, and I can't say anything bad because in 2 packs of it, I got a Victor Martinez Patch Card #ed/25! But, one thing I don't like about the set is the consistent shortage of hits and the price rising. I mean, I know we are going an economic crisis right now, but they could at least lower the price. If you say there are 4 hits per box, why aren't there 4 hits in ANY BOX! At least tell us the truth about this, like they would try to lure us into buying it! Other than that, the product is one of the best.

Upper Deck Goudey- ****** 6 out of 10
Why: Goudey 09 is very similar to 08 Goudey. The design is basically the same, but without Derek Jeter & ken Griffey Jr. says on the bottom. It is very plain this year though, and some of the photography is pretty bad. The game used aren't great, but the autographs look pretty good so far. I've gotten 4 hobby packs of this already, so I can say that the Heads Up Inserts are great, and same with the 4 in 1's. Next year, Goudey needs some work, if they have it by then.

Upper Deck SPX- ******* 7 out of 10
Why: SPX is quietly doing pretty good this year. I like the base cards a lot actually, somewhat 08 UD X like, but nicer. The game used cards are nice, and I love the Dimaggio Career Highlights inserts. The buyback on the top can always help, and I hear there are around 5 hits per box. Last year, one hit per pack had this product at a high price, and this year, the price went down a little and you get less. So, yeah, I like it.

This does not include Tristar Products and the new Topps Series 2 & UD Series 2

The winning percentage is out of 100 and is the chance I will buy it again...

2009 Card Overall Standings
Product, Winning Percentage, GB

All you needed to do was guess his birthday, and by saying quote in the contest rules blog entry, "Deadline to enter is May 20th", I guessed May 20th, got it right, and got into the drawing. Well, because us stupid Americans we are, barely anybody noticed this clue and not many people got it right. He threw in everyone, and did a random video. I happened to win the grand prize and got a free slot into his BoxBusters 2008 Playoff Prime Cuts IV Raffle, for a chance to win the box! For only $15, you can get a free slot to win a $200 + box for less than a blaster! Think about it, would you prefer a Hank Aaron autographed jersey card or a Kevin Millwood Game Used Pants? The 1st Contest was to win a 1/1 Ryan Howard Sketch Card from 2009 Topps, The 2nd Contest was to win a box of 08 Razor Letterman, The 3rd Contest was to win a 07 Bowman's Best Lincecum Auto, the 4th contest was to win either the Name That Ballplayer: The Ultimate “Whodunnit?” Quiz book or the 2009 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards 18th Edition DVD, and the 5th contest prize was to win a 2002 Bowman Chrome X fractor #/150! So, congrats Wax Heaven, and thanks for the contests! (I hope I win!!!)

I got some mail in today, just an 8 x 10 unsigned picture of Nick Swisher pitching to send out through the mail to him with, and it looks really nice, even better when Nick Swisher signs his name on it!

09 Goudey & 09 Bowman

Hey guys, Drew back here after a post on my other blog and a trip to my hobby shop last Saturday! But 1st, I'm a happy man over here in New York, as the Yankees have won 7 in a row and A-Rod & Tex both hit home runs in 4 straight games! So, I went to the shop with Joemama, and I got some supplies, including one 4 row box to store cards and a binder to store with as well. The box is going to be for Yankees cards, and I'm surprised on how many I have!

So, I also picked up 1 random lot, and 1 Yankees mixed lot, and a trip to my vendor got me 75 cents worth of old Yankee farts. I also got the new Beckett magazine, the 1st one I've gotten since 2006! With help from Joemama, I also picked up 4 packs of the new Goudey & 4 packs of the new Bowman! So, here's the recap. By the way, with the recaps, I posted a poll to keep them or not. I don't know if you like them or not, but, here we go:

Rip Card NEW IDEA NEVER DISCOVERED BY MANKIND!!!

WARNING: THIS HAS NOT BEEN TESTED YET!!! IF THE CARD HAPPENS TO BLOW UP, OR CATCH ON FIRE, REMEMBER I DID NOT TELL YOU ABOUT THIS!

Alright guys, I had a great idea recently about rip-cards. If you don't happen to have a flashlight with you, I have an idea! So, if you have a scanner with you, what you do is, you know how when you scan something a bright white light moves along the belt to scan the photo tray or whatever you want to call it. Well, I noticed that when the light moves along the card, you can see through it! So, I haven't tried it yet, because I don't have any unopened rip cards right now, but try scanning it and see the inside. Again, I'm not sure if it will work or not but still, try it! Thanks, and See ya!

2008 UD Baseball Heroes Review Part 2

Alright guys, time for the grading. Here we go:

2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes PRODUCT REVIEW

Design:
I love this design. It has a high end and low end kind of look. And now, I'm the master at these cards, since I recently completed the base set, and I love the collation of the rookies, veterans, and legends. The design at times looks like a cheap set, but also at times it looks really nice. It is one of my favorite 2008 card designs for baseball. Grade: A

Price:
The price is fantastic! Boxes can be found for about $60, but I bought my box for $52 from Blowout Cards during their weekend deals. For the amount of stuff you get, this is the perfect price. Some other equally good products from last year should drop to a price around this. Grade: A+
Hits:
I have seen horrible boxes of this before, but I've made out like a bandit so far! A Chipper Jones Patch Auto #ed/15, a Bob Gibson Relic, and a Carlos Beltran Patch! So, in this box, I was surprised to keep the streak going with Mike's Steve Carlton Jersey Auto #ed/10! I pulled a nice Bob Gibson/Jake Peavy dual game used #ed 1/50 as well, and the hits after that that we got are currently going for cheap on eBay. Although Mike's Rich Harden game used is numbered out of 200, one numbered out of 50 is going for $4 on ebay! My Kevin Kouzmanoff relic can be found for $1! So, I've been lucky, but I can't grade the hits real well because many boxes I have seen haven't had anything good. Grade: B

Overall:
This product is one of my faves. It has a great price and great results, similar to 2008 UD Piece of History! I like the cards as well, and the parallels blow me away, especially the red. So, if you want to see my 1st part of the review, here it is. I now have the whole set and I am real happy! I think this spectacular was the best one so far, with the Bowman's Best box, and this one, I was really happy with the results, and Mike is really happy with the Carlton. Overall Grade: A

Thanks for looking and see ya! By the way, I just sent out my Mussina TTM, and found so many more great addresses on sportscollectors.net, so I'll have more TTm's in the future, and some cool ones as well. I will also creat my own personalized card set, and maybe a cut signature set using my autographed index cards from future TTm's. Lastly, I have a great idea for finding out how to see the inside of a rip card from Allen & Ginter involving a scanner. So stay tuned for that stuff, and see ya!

Talk About A Marlins Hot Box!

Product Review:

Design:
This is one of the best new card designed sets I own. The cards are unbelievably nice, and they fit the sticker autos in perfectly, so even they look good. I love the different color parallels, and I also like the prospect variations as well. The base cards are extremely thick, but I don't think that matters at all! Grade: A+

Price:
I would not have bought this product without Blowout's help. I bought the boxes on one of the weekend specials, and got it for $35 off! Talk about a great deal! I guess I paid up for what I bought with it, but if it was $35 more, I wouldn't have. Grade: B-
Discounted Price Grade: B+

Hits:
These hits are very nice. Finally I don't have to worry about relics, but then, I got one. It turns out that the only jersey card in the set is of Dice-K, and I got it. I'm wondering if it is from Japan or not, or maybe some stupid photo shoot. But, the Hanley is sweet, I really love the design of the blue parallel that they use, which I pulled one of Alejandro De Aza. The Hermida & Bedard autographs are nice too, but the crown jewels of the box is the autograph of Cameron Maybin, who isn't playing well this year, but is a big name prospect whose Bowmans Best Auto ranges from $15 to $40. Grade: A

Overall:
Overall, this box wasn't an A+, but it was around those lines. The Marlins are a good team to get young player autographs in, and I'm pleased. Hanley was rated #1 on Espn for fantasy in the pre-season, so I'm happy to have his autograph. As for Kevin Kouzmanoff (KKK Man), I don't want any more of him. I got some nice #ed cards too, especially the green parallels, and I again, was happy with the box. Overall Grade: A-

So guys, remember to tune for sometime in the next couple weeks for Mike & I to do our annual Split, this time of 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes. I will also post an idea of a rip card trick I thought of sometime soon as well. As for TTMs, I will soon send one out to Mr. Mike Mussina, and it would be sick to get this stuff signed! So, See Ya!

Product Review:

Design:
Well, everybody hated the design for this product, but they actually used really nice photography with the cards. For the price, no doubt it's a steal, even though it looks like a little kids product, I think it is pretty good. Grade: B

Price:
The price for this stuff is pretty good for what you are getting. Think of a $20 blaster box from Target, when you get 1 hit for that price, usually quite suckish. Well, for $15 more, you can get 2 autographs, which I would take over game used on any day. So, the price on Blowout is $34.99 right now, and on DA it is $43, and at a local hobby shop, probably around $50. Grade: A

Hits:
The hits in this product are somewhat confusing. In retail they use only game used, but in hobby they only use autographs. So, I'm not confused, but I certainly was. The hits I got were not that great, we could've done better, but they are both rookies and I'll give them a chance. (Josh Newman & Rich Thompson) Grade: C

Overall:I wasn't all that excited about the hits, but I do like the X Ponential inserts, and the YSL inserts are nice. The base design is cool, and I was able to complete the set, my 1st complete set, even though all I did was buy a box and get all of them. So, I'm happy with it. Overall Grade: B-

Braces Rewards!

Hey guys, Drew back here with something that happened last Tuesday. I got around 10,000 cards from my dad for getting braces. He got the huge lot for cheap off craigslist, and there is so much stuff in this huge box that videos can only explain...

I got about 7 Manny rookies, a Jeter, a Thome, a Chipper, and more great rookies, and I'm now a master collector of 1992 and 1993 Topps. There are 2 football sets in there, but the rest is baseball. There is one box that has a lot of old cards from the 70's and 80's, so I'm very pleased. Here is a complete recap of that PLUS the 3 hobby packs he got me (Goudey 08, Spectrum 09, and UD 09) a mixed set from my local shop, and a hobby box of Upper Deck X. Check it out! (post on X will be made as soon as possible)

Things are getting better!

Well guys, things are beginning to change. My computer problem is fixed, and I was able to get the videos on my camera on without any errors. Today I am going to Best Buy either to get the camera fixed or to get a new one with the warranty. As for baseball, I'm still slumping, but 2 games ago, I was 2 for 3 with a triple, single, and walk, but I got benched half of yesterdays game and struck out my only ab. So I will now be able to make more movies, edit stuff, and post stuff, because now all my stuff is backed up on an extra hard drive. See Ya!
