Grandpa Roy Column!

Hey guys, Drew back here. With one more test to go, this school year is just about in the books for me, and I can't wait until I'm able to leave the madhouse that will be my Geometry Regents exam. Anyway, Grandpa gave me a question recently, and I wanted to see if any of you knew the answer? Here goes:

Throughout the history of Major League baseball, teams frequently change stadiums and cities. This makes it difficult to hit a lot of home runs in the same ballpark for so many years. Which hitter has the most home runs of all time in one ballpark? Name the player, ballpark, and number of home runs if you can!

Player: Mel Ott
Stadium: Polo Grounds
# of HR's: 323

Alright everyone, you know the drill! One guess a day, and please try to limit your uses of stat websites, unless its extremely necessary! Good luck, and See Ya!

  1. My guess would be Babe Ruth in Yankee Stadium. Not sure what year it opened, so I'll just take a guess of 310.

  2. I'll second Ruth in Yankee Stadium, but I'm not sure of how many he hit before Yankee Stadium opened. I'll assume he hit a few before, and go with 250.

  3. I'm going to go with Ted Williams, 275 at Fenway. Total guess.

  4. I don't think it's Ruth since he hit so many his first couple of years with the Yanks when they weren't in Yankee Stadium yet. I'm going with Mel Ott. He was lifetime with the Giants and they were in the polo grounds the whole time. He is in the 500-club...so my guess is around 300. Other teams played in the polo grounds at the same time, I think, so that could have helped, too. Great question!

  5. Mickey Mantle in Yankee Stadium... 325.

  6. Good guesses everyone! The correct answer was guessed by Spankee, Mel Ott is the leader in all time home runs in one stadium in the Polo Grounds, with a total of 323 homers!
