Upper Deck Replacement Mail and eBay Purchase

Hey guys, Drew back here. I had a game today following a CCD retreat day instead of school that was a legal absence for Confirmation, and an orthodontists appointment. Well, in my game I was late so I was benched for innings 1, 2, and 3, but following that I struck out and reached on an error. I missed another steal sign (I suck at those) and threw a horrible ball over the 1st baseman's head at third. Not a great day for me, but we won 3-2 despite. Ok, enough of me, onto the Upper Deck mail.

It's been a few months since I had my little incident of receiving this in my blaster,

I finally got back from Upper Deck on Saturday. They included a letter of apology, and if you're bored, you can read it here:

(you can click on it to make it bigger)

So, they included 2 hobby packs of 2010 Upper Deck, and here are the highlights of them...

Nothing special in base but a Brian Matusz rookie, Ramiro Pena and Cervelli were my 3 highlights.

The inserts were nice, and I'm really happy about the Jeter since I didn't have it yet. The Kershaw is for trade but it is really nice, I think I know someone who may want it. I have 2 of the Cliff Lee's now too so that is for trade as well, but I like the Howard so I'll probably keep that.

And to make up for 1 non-jersey...

2 Real Jerseys!!! And yes, there is something on the Dye this time, and a Derrek Lee too! I like that card especially with the blue jersey, yet they are both for trade (anyone have the Cano???).

Thanks Upper Deck! Now moving on to the last part for now, I got a nice TTM in today so that will most likely be up tomorrow as well as some Grandpa Roy Column stuff if I have the time. I bought this on eBay recently for $20 and I really like it! It's not a Cano or Swisher, but it is 3 great pitchers from the 70's-80's for the Yanks, and here it is.

2005 Donruss Signature Series Inkredible Triple Auto
Ron Guidry/Goose Gossage/Luis Tiant!!!
This is an awesome card, and it looks fantastic. Tiant has a wild signature, but it looks pretty nice all in all. The stickers actually help the design, and the rainbow look is by far the BEST looking stickers I've ever seen. These actually look nice to be honest! You can't go wrong with a Hall of Fame auto and a borderline Hall of Famer in Guidry. This is my 1st Goose and Tiant, and 2nd Guidry auto so far in my collection. I love this card and it looks great in the collection!

See Ya!

2010 Upper Deck Blaster Box

Hey guys, Drew back here, I opened a blaster of Upper Deck on Valentines Day, but Upper Deck appeared to show me no love or affection, here is a recap, with a reason why:

4 Yankees
We'll start this recap with great and end it with ugly. I have 2 Swishers now which is cool, and the Jeter is awesome looking, one of my favorites of him I must say. The Phil Coke is ok, it doesn't say anything about him being traded to the Tigers though, but it's nice to see him where he belongs. Lastly, a great shot of Teixeira, he's gonna have another big year I hope!

4 "Star" Rookies
Well, since Upper Deck doesn't have a license, the new rookie card logo needed to be created, and it is REALLY ugly. And, if anyone knows who these "stars" are please let me know. Thanks

4 Checklists
This pictures are ok, but from what I assume, they're probably the same pictures as the profile mugshot on the bottom of their base card. Is that Tony Gwynn? Well, I guess Upper Deck wants to fool collectors by not putting the "Jr." at the end of it.

3 Ballparks
I actually am a fan of these cards, see post below this for more additional info. The Yankee Stadium card is a favorite here, and I think they did ok showcasing the ballparks.

5 Biography Inserts
Design: D, Highlights: B, Photography: B+. Kinda boring unless you pull an interesting one, similar to Topps' History of the Game inserts. The Sheffield is my favorite probably, I like the horizontal photo.

2 Portraits Inserts
Iwwww. These cards are just plain awful.

2 Celebrity Predictors Inserts
This subset has it's ups and downs, I like the concept and theme, but I hate the perforated thing in between the 2 pictures and how it doesn't show the name. Many will argue these shouldn't be in here period, but there are a few funny ones, so I don't mind.

1 All World
One of my favorites from this set again, just, the things on the top and bottom left corners are odd.

1 Gold Card
No idea why, but these cards sell for a high price on the secondary market. I have NO idea who Paul Janish is, nor do I care. But I know someone who might...

AND THE BIG OVERPRICED AMAZING HIT IS.......

HUH?

Take a look at this card for a second, let me zoom it in:

I DON'T SEE ANYTHING!!!!

This card really annoys me, and I contacted Upper Deck, I hope I can get something cool in return. And that concludes another installment of why Topps is better than Upper Deck. Good night everybody

Hall of Fame Mailday

Hey guys, Drew back here, got a trade in from the Sports Card Forum. I make a ton of trades on that site, and it really pays off. Here is what I got for jersey cards of Hunter Pence and Craig Biggio:

2009 Topps Chrome X-Fractor Hideki Matsui
My 1st X-Fractor from 2009 Topps Chrome, and it's nice. It stinks to see Matsui as an Angel but at least he's not a Met or Red Sox player. I've always thought x-fractors had a cool design and although it's been a little overused I still find it pretty cool.

2009 Topps Unique Joba Chamberlain Red Parallel /1199
Another pretty nice card of a player whose cards are worth too much but isn't bad overall. Joba is young and his value is a little too high but I like him and I hope he does a good job wherever the Yankees put him. I see him as the Yankees next closer after Rivera, if they don't trade him, that is. This is a pretty cool card from one of the least popular releases of 2009, Topps Unique. The design is cool but the concept is stale. Aren't the same cards in Triple Threads?

2008 Topps Heritage Andy Pettitte Chrome Refractor /559
This is a really nice card, best out of the 3 shown so far. Pettitte has always been my favorite lefty and he has left a great legacy in New York. Although he admitted to using HGH, I forgive him and I think if he plays more years and gets up there in wins that people may talk about him as a Hall of Famer. Topps Heritage has done an amazing job the past few years with their sets, and this card does not disappoint.

2009 SPX Winning Materials Quad Jersey
Jermaine Dye/Jim Thome/Nick Swisher/Ken Griffey Jr.
Now this is one of my favorite Swisher relics in my PC, especially because of the men on the right side of the card. This is my 1st Griffey Jr. relic and I'm really happy to have 1, he's by far the greatest player of the 90's decade and one of the Top 5 in the 2000's as well. If only he avoided injuries, he may be the best of all time. Overall, the design is nice, and I think SPX was one of the best sets of the year in all honesty. I've opened many packs and pulled many hits!

See Ya!
