Upper Deck Replacement Mail and eBay Purchase

Hey guys, Drew back here. I had a game today following a CCD retreat day instead of school that was a legal absence for Confirmation, and an orthodontists appointment. Well, in my game I was late so I was benched for innings 1, 2, and 3, but following that I struck out and reached on an error. I missed another steal sign (I suck at those) and threw a horrible ball over the 1st baseman's head at third. Not a great day for me, but we won 3-2 despite. Ok, enough of me, onto the Upper Deck mail.

It's been a few months since I had my little incident of receiving this in my blaster,

I finally got back from Upper Deck on Saturday. They included a letter of apology, and if you're bored, you can read it here:

(you can click on it to make it bigger)

So, they included 2 hobby packs of 2010 Upper Deck, and here are the highlights of them...

Nothing special in base but a Brian Matusz rookie, Ramiro Pena and Cervelli were my 3 highlights.

The inserts were nice, and I'm really happy about the Jeter since I didn't have it yet. The Kershaw is for trade but it is really nice, I think I know someone who may want it. I have 2 of the Cliff Lee's now too so that is for trade as well, but I like the Howard so I'll probably keep that.

And to make up for 1 non-jersey...

2 Real Jerseys!!! And yes, there is something on the Dye this time, and a Derrek Lee too! I like that card especially with the blue jersey, yet they are both for trade (anyone have the Cano???).

Thanks Upper Deck! Now moving on to the last part for now, I got a nice TTM in today so that will most likely be up tomorrow as well as some Grandpa Roy Column stuff if I have the time. I bought this on eBay recently for $20 and I really like it! It's not a Cano or Swisher, but it is 3 great pitchers from the 70's-80's for the Yanks, and here it is.

2005 Donruss Signature Series Inkredible Triple Auto
Ron Guidry/Goose Gossage/Luis Tiant!!!
This is an awesome card, and it looks fantastic. Tiant has a wild signature, but it looks pretty nice all in all. The stickers actually help the design, and the rainbow look is by far the BEST looking stickers I've ever seen. These actually look nice to be honest! You can't go wrong with a Hall of Fame auto and a borderline Hall of Famer in Guidry. This is my 1st Goose and Tiant, and 2nd Guidry auto so far in my collection. I love this card and it looks great in the collection!

See Ya!

2010 Upper Deck Blaster Break

Hey guys, Drew back here. I have had so much work and other things going on in school lately that I haven't had much time to post. I had a project due yesterday, an essay, a quiz, and a test, not to mention the final day of the 3rd quarter. There is no way I could post through that mess. Anyway, I got this blaster for Easter from my parents, and we were hoping that we wouldn't have to deal with this again. Speaking of, no word from Upper Deck yet, but I understand why. Here is the break, check it out:

First, just a few base highlights. Only 1 Yankee was pulled in this entire box, and since it was Jonathan Albaledejo, that is pretty pathetic. Got Pence (who is sucking it up for my fantasy team so far), Braun, Halladay, Kung Fu Panda, Porcello, Han-Ram, and Aaron Hill. Not too bad, especially since most Upper Deck blasters have a ton of nobodies.

A few checklists and Ballparks. Got Wrigley and Fenway, 2 stadiums I want to visit at some point. Nothing much interesting else here.

Star rookies of Buster Posey, Drew Stubbs, and Tyler Colvin is a nice group. I am starting to like the Biographies, UD used good photos and they selected some cool things. The Randy Johnson one is awesome!

Wow, so far I think I've opened 20 retail packs and 2 hobby packs of this stuff, and the SAME Celebrity Predictors keep popping up. I now have 2 Chris Martin/Paltrow cards, and 2 Pattinson/Stewart junkies too. The Vintage cards are pretty nice though, Greinke and Kinsler aren't bad pulls by any means.

These inserts are pretty nice. Pure Heat is cool, the Beckett is most certainly for trade, but yeah, it's a pretty cool design. The Supremes are ok, I'm kinda so-so on these, kinda boring looking, even if it's shiny and scans horribly. And All World is really nice, I like these the best out of the 3. All 3 of these are for trade as well as almost everything in this break (not the hit). Speaking of hits......

THE BIG "MOJO" HIT IS....

Nice! King Felix jersey swatch! That's pretty cool, especially since he's a star on both of my fantasy teams. Even if it's gray, at least there is a relic this time, and he's an awesome pitcher.

Much better quality in this blaster, though not really many Yankees to add to the collection. See Ya!

eBay Pickup!

Hey guys, Drew back here, with a very quick post here about the first of 3 cards I bought from eBay, and this is now the 3rd of 7 owed package posts, I want to combine them but haven't had the time. Here is the card:

Card: 2007 Ultimate Collection America's Pastime Autograph #AP-NW Nick Swisher
Price: Around $5 shipped

I really like the design of the card, and Upper Deck did a good job with the sticker, it's perfectly centered and the auto looks sweet. I should be posting my Swisher collection this weekend at some point, I'm getting piled in awesome packages right now so I'm very behind. Still have a ton coming, so, I guess that's it.

Oh wait, almost forgot, sounds like Upper Deck doesn't have to shut down the business after the MLB and them reached an agreement today. I think products such as Goudey and a few other soon expected releases won't be able to be released, so that kinda sucks, and from now on they will need to hide all logos and need permission for everything they use basically. It basically is saying goodbye to Upper Deck without actually saying it. What are they gonna do, take pictures of players at home, mountain biking, hiking, swimming, and playing video games? Oh wait, scratch the video games, they need a license, haha. See Ya!

The Best Thing to do when you are in an argument with a company is...

Buy more of their product?

Hey guys, Drew back here, and yes, I bought 2 more packs of Upper Deck last Monday while I was getting supplies at the card shop, although it was a day after I pulled this disaster. Hey, what are the odds of it happening again anyway? Well, no hits needed in these 2 packs for some awesome inserts! Here are some highlights:

Yes, Pujols is a highlight, no matter what, and is my favorite non-Yankee I've seen so far out of this set. Kinda easy to beat. 2 more terrible star rookies, actually, Davis is ok. The Checklists look better this year than last, and I'm really happy Team Leaders is gone, but does anybody wanna trade me the Yankee one?

More Biography. Still not sure if I like these or not. Kinda cool that we got the Supreme Court Justice caught in pinstripes on a card, that's a PC one. I like the Griffey one a lot and the Hamilton is cool too. Does anybody care about Jason Kendall?

I like this Celebrity Predictor the most, especially because of Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay, being on it. Anyone else a big Coldplay fan? My friend saw them in concert, and he said they were good. They always sound terrible at those award shows, but they're all heavily drunk so that's probably why. The Helton is ok, I do really hate those Portraits cards.

Awesome! 2 nice Yankees, including Joe D and Mark Teixeira. This is my 1st Pure Heat and it's pretty cool looking, although it could look even better I bet. I like Heroes a ton, probably in my top 3 favorite Upper Deck releases, and this card is awesome. I want more of these DiMaggio's, pretty sure there are a few cards of his in the set.

Well, Upper Deck made me happy with those 2 Yankees, but will they be able to do something about my Jermaine Dye game used card back card?

TO BE CONTINUED.............

Trade with the Night Owl!

Hey guys, Drew back here, this time with a little (actually big) mailday courtesy of Night Owl Cards, the 2009 blog of the year! Greg sent me a great package full of cards I didn't have yet, so a big thanks to him. Here are the cards he sent, this will be long, because I haven't gotten to the point where I learn it's better to scan your favorites and post them, NOT all of the cards, hahaha.

This first group has some cards from the Ticket to Stardom set and some 09 Upper Deck. I actually needed the Cano, call me a Cano collector, not having an Upper Deck base card. I like Ticket to Stardom, unlike most of you, it has a cool feel to them, and I needed 3 out of those 4 I think.

This next set has some Tristar stuff, a set I have never bought. I need quite a few of these. Topps Chrome was great in 2009, and I will eventually get around to collecting the set. Some 08 Documentary cards were mixed in as well as two Starquest Chien-Ming Wangs. Please take a moment and click on this picture above. Tell me there is no difference between the 2 cards. Apparently one is the Blue Uncommon and the other is a Silver common. I don't see one difference between them, anybody know anything about these?

More Allen & Ginter, at least I needed them for PC, since I own over 450 2009 Allen & Ginter cards right there. I have a signed card of that Mussina, from a contest at 30-YOC once. I didn't have the Tino too and that is a really nice card.

A bunch of Yankee Stadium Legacies, I have maybe around 75 of these, and I'm actually not that bored in them, if you have any please let me know. The only thing I didn't like was that every picture was used for at least 25 cards, so that is kinda boring. I really like the Ruth though, my favorite of the bunch.

Masterpieces is the greatest set I know, and it shows here. That picture of Joba amps me up, just looking at it! I really enjoyed O-Pee-Chee this year too, it was very simple but it worked. Lastly, Goodwin. I think I need like 2 more cards to finish off the team set and this little group helped that. I needed the Jeter, Damon, and Joba, and the Ford is soon going to be sent off through the mail since I have 2.

Some 80's and 90's mixed stuff here, that guy in the bottom left corner creeps me out. That Bowman set was weird like that, but one of the best current rookie cards out there shows the legend all dressed up. At least give him a hat!

More 80's and 90's, lovin the Yogi Berra and Mickey Mantles. I also like the Bernie card, didn't have it. I don't know where I could find the 3 next to it if I didn't have good ol' Night Owl on my side. The 2 based on the 1968 Topps set with Boggs and Brien Taylor are from a magazine, and the Irabu is from some other thing.

In this next group, we have 2 nice Babe Ruths, a Rickey Henderson, a Jeter I didn't have, and a Reggie Heroes card. Also an A-Rod iTunes download card, which I've never seen. The Babe cards are awesome, I gotta get more of those sometime.

Some Bowman cards, including Dave Winfield, Dave Righetti, and a few others. The other 3 are some sort of advertisements to some Upper Deck giveaway or something. I hate getting cards that are a tad bigger because they look annoying in my box, so I keep a seperate pile for those. I'll have to show you guys my Yankees box, sometime I guess.

A bunch of 1978 Topps, and I don't think I had any of them! I really need to get a headstart on a vintage collection, it's kind of weak from a Yankee perspective. My favorite is of course the Sparky Lyle, he's one of my favorites from the past, and I really like the Catfish Hunter too. Topps refused to put Catfish on the card, it must be easy on eBay to steal a card of Jim Hunter.

I know, I grouped the cards terribly. As you see, a 1974 Topps Gene Michael goes really well with a Ricky Ledee Upper Deck card. Again, more nice vintage, but my favorite here has to be the Paul O'Neill. I love cards that have baseball seams sticking out, like 09 Sweet Spot & 08.

Again, more terrible grouping. A big card, 2 little cards, and a regular card, all from different times. The Balboni is cool, don't have too much of him, and the Tex is nice too. In all honestly Steve Sax is boring, and Bucky Dent is my magnet from Goodwin. I now have at least 3 of his base cards along with the mini, the Gypsy Queen mini variation, and I hope that will be it. 1 home run gets him into this set, 1 HOME RUN!!!! It was a good home run though...

This trade started when Greg opened a rack pack of Topps and Upper Deck from 2010. I saw the Swisher and jumped on it. I also requested the Hughes, the Yankees checklist, and the Granderson, but he threw in a few more. Sweet! I can't get enough of this years Topps set and Upper Deck is pretty nice too. Turkey Red is starting to get old, so I kinda hope they stop after this year, but I'm still gonna try for that set. Mickey Mantle has a cool picture this year too, but I'd really wish they'd stop this tradition as well, and make him a short print. I honestly don't get why they do that already.

Easily my favorite Yankees card this year, a Ballpark shot of Yankee Stadium. I actually like how Upper Deck did this set because they chose pretty good pictures. I can't tell, but is that the old Yankee Stadium behind it? I'm honestly not sure, but I should know. I don't think so but just wanna make sure.

Thanks so much for the package Night Owl, I'll gather some cards for you and have them out eventually! See Ya!
