WAT Winner is...

Hey guys, Drew back here. This morning I found out about the winner of our worst autograph tournament, so I figured a final post would be good to make it official. Jason Jennings took home first prize while Vernand Morency fell just a bit short. So congrats Jason Jennings, Your auto sucks! Thanks again to all who helped me out with the tournament, Chris, Mike, and Jordan, great job! And after months of voting, Jason Jennings has indeed the worst autograph as voted by you the fans!

Tomorrow I'm going to the Yankees game, the first one for me this year. Andy Pettitte is going up against David Price, so that means a low scoring and very interesting one to come! I don't go to many Yankee games, usually 1 a year, so I cherish the game and it's always a blast. If you may remember last year, I went to Old Timers Day, and I opened 2 packs of 2009 Allen & Ginter for Gint-A-Cuffs while I was there. My dad also gave me a Ron Guidry autograph, my 1st of now 2 Guidry autos in my collection. So we hope to see the museum and maybe even Monument Park, and it should be fun. I'll definitely have more to come after the game!

Ok, we need to end this post on a good note, I found out who my Red Hot Rookie is this year, unfortunately it's not Strasburg, but it was a deserving All Star!

Won it for the Boss!

Hey guys, Drew back here. Last night, the Yankees played an awesome game against the Rays. Perhaps the biggest news about this game previous to the start was the moment of silence and ceremony concerning the deaths of Bob Sheppard and George Steinbrenner. Derek Jeter spoke in front of the fans and did a great job yet again.

Who proved to be the main star of the night? Not Derek Jeter, Tex, or A-Rod. Mariano Rivera had a clutch performance in the 9th inning with a 4-4 game at the time, but the main reason why it was 4-4 was because of my man Nick Swisher! Swish homered in the 8th inning to tie the game, and in the 9th, Swisher delivered a big game winning single!

I think this year is the year that Nick landed in NY. He's hitting home runs, hitting for average, made the All Star team and participated in the Home Run Derby. For all you people that think Swisher is overrated, watch out for him, because he's one of the hotter hitters in baseball right now! He performed in the clutch for the Bronx and the 2 men that passed away, and at least for today, he's considered a hero. Go Swish! See Ya!

While I Was Gone...

Hey everyone, Drew back here after a nice long vacation in Cape May, NJ. Over the trip I had no Wii-Fii so I had no clue what went on in card land, but I think I'm somewhat caught up. I did in fact have a TV though, and ears that work for the most part (minus the selective hearing with mom haha), so I heard the sad news of the passing of not one, but 2 Yankees Legends.

BOB SHEPPARD
1910-2010

On Sunday, July 11th, Yankees long time public address announcer, passed away at the age of 99 in Baldwin, NY. Sheppard had "The Voice of God", as Reggie Jackson would say, and as Red Sox HOF'er Carl Yastrzemski once said "You're not in the big leagues until Bob Sheppard announces your name". He began his career in baseball in 1951, when DiMaggio and Mantle shared the outfield, along with Yogi Berra behind the plate and Phil Rizzuto at shortstop. From that point on, until 2006, Sheppard announced the Yankees and visiting opponents every game. R.I.P. Bob Sheppard, you can finally take your throne in heaven so you really can be the voice of god.

GEORGE STEINBRENNER
1930-2010

Just 2 days following the death of Bob Sheppard, another tragedy occurred in the Yankees family. On Tuesday, July 13th, George Steinbrenner, "The Boss", was found dead at his home in Tampa, Florida, due to a heart attack. Steinbrenner turned 80 on July 4th, and things seemed to be going well for him, until his unfortunate death. George bought the Yankees in 1973 and was the owner until he passed the franchise down to his sons, Hank and Hal, in 2006. He brought a winning attitude to the Bronx, where he spent fortunes on some of the highly touted free agents in baseball history: Catfish Hunter, Reggie Jackson, Dave Winfield, CC Sabathia, and Mark Teixeira. His tenure as the Yankees "Boss", won the team 7 World Series, and made the Yankee logo one of the most famous emblems worldwide. He also spent some money, and some time, setting up the Yankees Entertainment and Sports Network (YES), becoming the first team to have their own television channel, which debuted in March 2002. George gave a lot of money to local Tampa Bay charities, and was a lot more of a person then the average fan thought. R.I.P. George, we're gonna miss you.

I know most of you knew about all this already, but I wanted to pay my respects to the greats of the Yankees while I had an opportunity. I'll have more to come later, that I would've posted in this post, but I figured to let the post end with this.
