Cubs vs. Mets Game Recap!

Hey everyone, Drew back here! I can't believe it's already July; 2015 has been nothing short of a blur so far. As for my recent absence, I have been going through a decent amount personally of late, but things appear to be picking back up little by little. Last night, a couple of my friends and I visited Citi Field to see two of baseball's best young teams; the Cubs and Mets. We were able to figure out the subway system and made it to the ballpark with plenty of time to spare, and we were ready for a great game.

Unfortunately, despite strong pitching performances from Jon Niese and Kyle Hendricks, both teams generally weren't ready. There were a combined 7 hits in the game, Matt Szczur leading the way for the Cubs with two hits and the lone RBI. Daniel Murphy was impressive on both sides of the field in his return, making a sparkling diving grab to his left at third as well as crushing a double to the deepest area of Citi Field. The Cubs ultimately won the game, 1-0, snapping their 5 game losing streak but not necessarily in style.

The main draw for my friends and I was Kris Bryant, who we saw sign autographs prior to the game (starting to regret not sprinting down to the lower level to try and get one). Bryant singled and walked in a 1-3 effort, and also scored the lone run. It was cool to see considering he hopefully will go on to be at least a finalist for NL Rookie of the Year and a future star.

In other news, I took the advice of Parks and Recreation's Donna and Tom and treated myself to a beautiful 40 inch TV and a PS4 for my man cave! I have been saving up money for a while now, and now was a better time than ever to trade my Xbox 360 and 10 year old TV in for some new stuff.

I have quite a few things to show off including a few great care packages, a TTM, and some eBay pickups. Be sure to keep on the lookout!

See Ya!

Today's the Day!

Hey everyone, Drew back here. As you read this I will probably be heading on my way down to White Plains with my dad and my friend Mike to attend the "East Coast National"! This will be my 3rd straight year of going to the biggest show in the area, and hopefully, I think I'm coming prepared this time. Granted I've went to a lot of shows at the County Center but this show is typically bigger than the rest. I will meet 4 players, rounding up in about $190 of autograph guests. Yes, I'm ridiculous, but hey, better do what you love doing while you're young!

So I'll leave the surprise going until I get back so you can see my new additions to the collection, and I'll give you all the review just like I did last time, in the order of how it happened. I've been super excited for this all summer, and here we go!

See Ya!

Merry Christmas!

Hey everyone, Drew back here. Just wanted to wish you all a happy and merry Christmas! If Christmas isn't your holiday, then happy holidays! I hope you all get yourselves a nice box of cards like I did, and had a good time with your family and friends! Sorry about this month, I haven't even posted 10 times this month, an all time low. Unfortunately, don't expect a whole lot in the next few months, but I'll try to stay around as much as I can. Hopefully I'll have some stuff to show you all within the next few days, so be on the lookout for that!

Break

Hey guys, Drew back here. I need to catch a break here, I know that I'll be behind after I get back, it'll only be a few days though and I am far too upset/stressed to post anything. I got cut for the second year in a row for my school team, yet again, another year of trying to figure out what I did wrong. I don't know any way I couldn't have made it with the tryout I had, and I'd love to hear a reason from the coach as to why I got cut. Everyone there, and everyone that made it thought I should have made the team and was one of the best out there. I hustled, I ran hard and fast compared to others, I fielded well, and I hit well. I even helped the coach move some equipment and tried to talk to him and get familiar with him, since I thought I'd make it. But for some reason, I wasn't picked... again. I'm trying to control what I'm typing, I would write more but I just can't make my thoughts into words. I'm really mad that he cut me... again, and I think to be honest he has something against me. Don't know what, but that's the only reasonable thing I can think of why I didn't make it. He gave us the Michael Jordan speech on how he got cut all 4 years in high school basketball, but that doesn't help at all.

I know that many of you guys had your moments when you were kids, or maybe a few years ago, I'm pretty sure I'm the youngest card blogger out there, so please try to help me out. I'm really hurting from this, and I would really appreciate some feedback.

Card Shop/Blog League Team

Hey guys, Drew back here. It's gonna be a rough week for me on this here blog. I don't know how much free time I'll get, but I'll try to make the most out of each opportunity. Baseball tryouts are going on and I broke the nerves today and played my heart out, just what I wanted. Us 8th Graders get the day off tomorrow, but the next tryout date is Wednesday. I have Confirmation Class tomorrow and CCD Wednesday, and my OTHER fantasy draft on Friday. Rough week, eh?

Check out my roster in the Card Shop/Blog League, ran by foul bunt. We drafted yesterday and I had a great time chillin with the guys, thanks again for the invite Will. Here's my team:

BATTERS
C: Yadier Molina
1B: Carlos Pena
2B: Asdrubal Cabrera
SS: Alcides Escobar
3B: Ryan Zimmerman
2B/SS: Martin Prado
1B/3B: Kevin Kouzmanoff
OF 1: Adam Lind
OF 2: Curtis Granderson
OF 3: Andrew McCutchen
OF 4: Jason Kubel
OF 5: Juan Pierre
UTIL: Juan Rivera
Bench 1: Nick Johnson
Bench 2: Bengie Molina
Bench 3: Melky Cabrera

PITCHERS
P 1: Tim Lincecum
P 2: Felix Hernandez
P 3: Cliff Lee
P 4: A.J. Burnett
P 5: Edwin Jackson
P 6: Jorge de la Rosa
P 7: Joba Chamberlain
P 8: Joel Pineiro
Closer: Andrew Bailey

Well, the hitters kinda suck, but I hope Zimmerman, Lind, Grandy, and Pena carry the team the way they have in the past. However, my pitching staff is incredible! Getting Lincecum, King Felix, AND Cliff Lee is gonna be fun. Andrew Bailey is gonna be a good closer too. I kinda didn't have many options in Round 2, I really don't like Miguel Cabrera, and should've taken him, instead I got Hernandez. Wish me luck, and let me know how the team looks, I'm not sure if I like it, I think I drafted somewhat mediocre. See Ya!

Wow, anybody noticing that eBay auctions are selling well right now with baseball? I've been outbid on cards that should be a few bucks that go to at least $10, and in the last minute every time! Anyone else having this problem of not winning eBay auctions?

By the way, 3 Through the Mails are going out tomorrow, and 2 packages, one for Night Owl and one for Cardboard Heaven.

See Ya.

Update: I feel better now

even more better now, I'm on a roll!!!

Big Report Card Purchase Ahead

Hey guys, Drew back here, and I'm excited for a few reasons, like:

1: I finished my Robinson Cano wantlist that took me months to complete, even though I'm sure I missed a few cards. If you wanna check it out and see if you have any, click on this link and click on the sheet on the bottom of the page that says Robinson Cano wantlist. If you have any cards I need please feel free to contact me at yanks1996wsc@gmail.com. Gotta start working on the Swisher list soon!

2: I got my report card today! And yeah, it was better than my 92.5 GPA 1st quarter. I improved my overall average to a 94.25, just .75 points shy of Principal's List, and I gained 4 points in Math & Tech, my 2 weakest classes. I didn't earn much $ at first, but my parents were nice enough to change my pay for my grades because they know I've been working my butt off at school, and the past few weeks were really hard on me. I totaled around $115 and I was very happy with that. Unfortunately, that is now only $15, because of 2 big purchases I made today,

Big Purchase 1:

2010 Topps Series 1 Baseball Hobby Box - Click Image to Close

Yep, I got a box too. I know everyone is doing this, and I've been wanting to get a box of the new flagship like the past few years. I've always found loopholes to avoid doing this though, and I know the hits are really nothing special, I can care less about them here. I love the 2010 inserts and I'm possibly going to after the Tales of the Game, Turkey Red, and Legendary Lineage insert sets. If possible I'd also like to add When they Were Young and History of the Game to that list, don't know if I will or not. It depends on how all else goes. And yes, I am going to try to collate the 3 sets of Topps this year. I liked last year but I think this year may be even better. Can't wait until it arrives, I got it off Blowout Cards for $48.99 plus $7.00 shipping. Not bad!

Big Purchase 2:

Well, no pictures yet, because it's a surprise. But I did spend a good $40 on Check Out My Cards.com, including a bunch of nice inserts, a vintage card of a Yankee, an autograph of one of my favorite all time pitchers, an NFL Hall of Fame autograph, and a few current Yankee rookie cards! Yes, that is it. Not too bad, what do you think. Well, you'll have to wait and see what they are, hopefully that hint won't keep you up all night thinking about them, hahahaha.

See Ya!

Lots of Stuff Tomorrow & Monday, and probably after that too

Hey guys, Drew back here. Today was a great day yet again thanks to JP's Sports, the company who runs the card show in White Plains I went to today. I probably spent more than I should have, but I met a former Yankee captain and bought tons of new sweet cards! My crazy dad bought me a good 15 new hobby packs, some singles, AND a box of Philadelphia football! So, please, stay tuned, for a ton of big additions and stories for my collection. See Ya!

Awards

Hey guys, Drew back here. I hope you all enjoyed the holiday, it was so great for me. I got 3 boxes, 08 Donruss Threads, 09 UD Piece of History, and 09 Topps Chrome. I opened the Threads as you may have heard yesterday, and I got one heck of a sweet hit. I also opened the Piece of History, and other than one card that is definitely pretty awesome for my collection (doesn't book much though), it wasn't the greatest by any means. I am going to open the Chrome with my dad today, not expecting much hit wise but you never know. So just wanted to let you all know that, I also got 100 bucks from my grandparents, so now I am definitely going to that January show. And my Pop Popps gave me a sweet stack of 70's cards, including some of the best players that ever lived, cool stuff. Grandpa Roy is coming over today, so we're hoping to think up and write down some questions. We are planning on a weak next 2-3 months for the Grandpa Roy Column, until Spring Training starts.

So, for the awards, the last polls didn't go so well but I'll count them anyway, staying on track, the next 2 polls are going up today, so vote on them! They are the insert awards, what inserts did you enjoy the most?

Please vote for the awards if you haven't already, email me your picks for these awards to yanks1996wsc@gmail.com

Blog of the Year
Rookie Blogger of the Year
Blog Trader of the Year
Blog Box Breaker of the Year

and if you know YouTube, the same awards for blogs go for them. The nominees are here.

Busy Plans

Hey guys, Drew back here. I kinda wanted to post yesterday and today's mail but really don't feel like it. Instead I'm gonna work on my new and improved Zistle account, I'm putting my entire Yankees PC on there! I'm going to try to get the blog sidebar an update and hopefully I'll have time to post that mail! If I get anything tomorrow I will definitely post, got some cool stuff to show you.

Other than that I have a busy weekend. I gotta work on a science project, do some community service for my conformation next year by sweeping floors at my rec center after the town basketball games, and other stuff I know will be planned for me in between. I went out to eat just now at a new sports bar in my town and it was pretty nice, they had that New York Sack Exchange picture I used for the last Grandpa Roy trivia post signed by all four, and they had a partially signed team photo of the 1971 Alexandria High School Titans. Kinda interesting, because I just got finished watching "Remember the Titans" in my Social Studies Film Class that I'm in, so it was cool to see. Any of you know any living members from that team? I want to try to get some stuff signed through the mail by maybe the coach if he's still around, Herman Boone. Leave me a comment if you know anything about it.

http://www.chasingthefrog.com/reelfaces/rememberthetitans/tmpc.jpg

The Yanks signed Nick Johnson today, which hopefully doesn't end the Johnny Damon era. Johnson has the 2nd best on base percentage since 2006 in the MLB (to Pujols), so that's always good, but don't we already have Nick Swisher? And Curtis Granderson? And Melky Cabrera? And Brett Gardner? And weren't we trying to get Damon back? Guess what? The Yanks can care less! I'm kinda wondering why they are doing this, this basically means either they are getting rid of Swisher :(, or they are getting rid of Damon. Tough call. Damon hit 25 homers last year!

http://img2.allposters.com/images/PHOTOFILE/AADG018.jpg

Wow, already a studio photo of Johnson in a Yanks uniform? Nah, that picture was from years ago! At least I have his rookie card for the PC!

Anyway, I'll get you back to your normal, without Drew kind of lives :). I'll try to get around to posting over the weekend, but for now, see ya!

Come on, vote!!!!

Hey guys, in order to elect the 2nd card into the BCHOF (baseball card hall of fame), I need 3 votes on 1 card. 4 votes on totally opposite cards isn't gonna cut it. Come on, what do you think is the 2nd greatest baseball card of all time? Honus is #1 in case you didn't know, who's #2!

Anyway, Grandpa Roy and I are thinking of ways to make questions that won't make you look them up to find the answer. Next time we post with that, please try to name them off the top of your head! I can't control but that would really be good!

The Yankees are now 5 1/2 up on Boston and I can't be more happy! Well, you all know already because of ESPN (the Yankees show)

Stupid ESPN columnists jerks! How dare you call me fat & nerdy, NOT COOL LUKAS!!!

http://www.forgotten-ny.com/forgottenfans/paullukas.jpg Paul Lukas
Hey chicks, this amazingly non-nerdy columnist is single! You obviously would want him!

I won the 30 Year Old Cardboard Contest with a spot on guess of 137 total runs scored in yesterdays games. So I win 10 packs of 1989 Topps and 3 autographs of all stars (1 being the Moose!) Thanks for the contest!

Lastly, to William from foul bunt, glad to see the cards come on all in one piece. Sorry about the Hill Beardy! Next time I pull an O I'll trade with you. That sound good? Hopefully!

See Ya!

Update Stuffs

Hey guys, here's the gameplan for August:

- First off, I bought an 8 x 10 unsigned of Yogi Berra, and I will send out to him TTM before its too late. He normally charges, but I figure I can write a nice letter saying I'm 13 and get out of it. If that works out without any charge, I might send out to Whitey Ford and Don Larsen, I don't know.

- I bought another Bruney autograph off eBay yesterday, should be coming soon.

- I am probably going to get a box or 2 off blowout (probably 1 09 A&G) this month.

- I am going to Maine and the Adirondacks this month (later near school), and in Maine there is a nice card shop I'll go to where I first learned about the hobby.

- Hopefully I'll get the TTM back from Nick Swisher, and hopefully I'll get some of the 2 worst products of the year, Icons and X.

That's it!

Gone for the night

I'm going to my friend's sleepover party, so no posts tonight. Continue the trivia if you haven't already! We went to the mall today and got some stuff, which I'll post tomorrow, and we may get the boxes later, because we are going to New Hampshire on Friday and may not have time to get the boxes before we leave, but I will try. See ya.

Boxes Ordered!

I just ordered the boxes and they should be here in a week.

3rd Quarter Spectacular Update

Boxes are going to be ordered very soon. Hey guys, and as you see about that sentence, I am doing a 3rd quarter spectacular! So, on Blowout I am ordering 2 boxes today: 1 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes box, and 1 2007 Bowman's Best box. They both have discounts right now, and I am really excited. Right now, I have been having tons of horrible technology luck ever since I got these:

2 Words: They suck. Anyway, I asked Mike if he wanted to split the Heroes box for $26, and he said maybe. He should be coming over in a couple minutes also. By the way, JawdysBasement isn't the only person in a basement busting cards. There is a rumor that I am moving the drewscards headquarters down to my basement where I will record videos and continue the drewscards tradition. So, I talked to Mike while he was here today and he said he was 90% sure he will pitch in and split the box with me. I will have another video slideshow for you based on the many many cards my dad gave to me for getting braces. (hint: i'm getting close to 30,000 total cards!) So keep looking for that update and now I have to work on a school project. See Ya!

1 Box of 07 Bowmans Best

1 Box of 2008 UD Heroes (split with Mike very possible)

Next Break Update

How does this look to you for the 3rd Quarter Spectacular:

2 Boxes possibly splitting with Sweeny ( not sure yet, but it is our best idea so far. He hasn't decided if he wants to split a box this quarter yet)

1 Box of Elements for me

1 Box of Topps 09 Series 1

This will happen if all works out as planned, unless I reconsider with Mike

Sunday, January 25, 2009

Sorry I Haven't Posted In A While (lol)

01/21/2009
Yo whats up everybody, drewscards here with my 2nd Quarter Spectacular Break Update. I am going to buy a box of 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes, and my friend Mike is going to split a box of 2008 Upper Deck Football Heroes. We also are ordering them from DA (Dave & Adams Sports Cards). On the side, we will order a pack of 2008 Leaf Certified Football, a pack of 2007 Fleer Ultra SE Baseball, and a pack of 2008 Donruss Threads Baseball. Thats about it, and my next post will be a mailday, but after that will be the boxes. See Ya!

PS.. Mike and I are splitting the two free packs that come with the boxes, 2 packs of 2008 Donruss Gridiron Gear Football, and we are opening the boxes on the Super Bowl. I will try to order it all tonight or tommorow.
