Hey everyone, Drew back here! I can't begin to tell you how quickly this semester has gone, but yet I am just a few weeks away from a long vacation. I will be studying next Spring, however I will be in Florence, Italy, so being considered a "student" will be a bit of a stretch. I've spent some of my time lately in preparation for my opportunity of a lifetime, and I can't put into words how much I'm looking forward to leaving the country for the first time.
Anyhow, I never finished showing off my experience at the White Plains Thanksgiving card show last weekend, so I'm here to do just that. I've been gushing lately about the Yankees ability to hold onto their top prospects, and even started a Luis Severino PC in response to my confidence in Brian Cashman and the organization. They finally woke up and realized that baseball is becoming a younger man's game each and every day.
I had a rough week last week, battling through minimal hours of sleep and Black Friday. Thanksgiving felt more like a typical day than the holiday I've always loved. But I still needed to make the trip out to the Westchester County Center in order to shake hands with one of the players I hope will be calling New York home for many years to come.
Sure enough, I shook hands with Greg Bird! The headliners for JP's Sports' smaller Thanksgiving show were two young New York phenoms: Bird and Steven Matz of the Mets. I like Matz, but the price point was $20 higher than Bird's, so I just wound up adding the Yankee first baseman to my collection.
It was a weird experience meeting someone only a few years older than me. In most cases, I am as polite as can be to the established veterans and legends I've met, but it was near impossible not to just say "what's up man" when I stood in his presence. He was very approachable and humble from what I could tell, and I told him I was rooting for him and wished him the best of luck with the Yankees in the future.
I also managed to sneak a few pictures of Steven Matz in there for my Met fan friends. It was a lot of fun watching them play to the end of October, and nobody really saw it coming. I'm not sure if that will just be a one time thing because they may potentially lose a large sum of their offensive production this winter, but their pitching will most likely be lights out for a long time to come. Matz will more than likely continue to be their most undervalued hurler, and as a fairly local guy I know I'll be rooting for him also.
I really liked what I saw from Greg Bird this year in his limited time in pinstripes. I remember coming home from a bad day of work and listening to the Yankees WFAN Radio when he crushed a three run home run to put the team ahead in the top of the 10th inning against the Blue Jays. It certainly made up for that difficult night. He will be starting 2016 in Scranton to receive more plate opportunities while Mark Teixeira returns from his fractured shin to play out the final year of his 8 year contract. Bird will be waiting in the wings for if/when Teixeira fatigues or gets injured, and will most likely take over the spot for good in 2017.
If he hits anything close to the way he did in August and September, we'll be lucky to have him. And I'll be especially lucky to have met him and receive such a nice signed baseball of his.
See Ya!

Severino Sunday: Thanksgiving Show Haul
Hey everyone, Drew back here! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and got yourself some steals on Black Friday. I had the honor and privilege of dealing with crazy customers all throughout Thanksgiving night and all of Black Friday, so I guess you can say I've had better years. However, I was able to make it out to the JP's Sports Thanksgiving Show yesterday, and I spent some money on myself to make things a little more even.
This show was held in the basement of the Westchester County Center thanks in part to a coin show that occurred on the main floor. There were 175 tables as opposed to the typical 300, but being in the basement made autograph lines tight and there was a general lack of space. Luckily, they only do the show this way every Thanksgiving, so we can all be thankful for the rest of the shows they hold that allow for breathing room.
The weirdest part of this show for me was that it was the first one I've been to without my Dad. Dad is in the midst of deer season, and the lineup for this show really wasn't anything worth missing one of his vacation days for, so he sat this one out. I can't really blame him, but it did feel much different without him by my side.
I did my best to allocate my budget towards exactly what I wanted, and I'm really proud of the haul I returned home with. Since today is Severino Sunday, I figured I'd begin with sharing my latest additions of the Yankees young flamethrower.
- 2015 Bowman Inception Autograph Relic
I'll hopefully be back tomorrow to share the experience I had with another one of the Yankees young stars.

- 2015 Bowman Inception Autograph Relic
A few weeks ago, I bought the patch autograph version of this card, and now I own the base auto as well. Bowman Inception is chock full of Severino autographs, and I was able to knock a solid dent into that piece of my wantlist yesterday.
- 2015 Bowman Inception Autograph Relic Green Parallel 80/99
See what I mean?
- 2015 Bowman Inception Autograph Relic Orange Parallel 24/25
I bought all three of these cards from the same seller, and got a fantastic package deal on the trio. They had the orange parallel marked as $60 initially, and I got all three of these for $70. The oranges are difficult to come by, and this one caught my eye from across the room. I made sure it came home with me, and with that, the only relic autographs I'm missing from Inception are the gold and red parallels. Not too bad, if you ask me.
- 2014 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects Orange Refractor 16/25
Orange doesn't make for the most aesthetically pleasing Yankees cards, but it is awfully hard not to like this card. While talking to one of my favorite vendors, I spotted that he had this card, and I was able to land it for a reasonable price. I'm chipping away at this particular rainbow, but still have plenty of work to do.
I'm beginning to think that on top of only collecting his Topps & Bowman cards, I may also limit the collection to his pre-rookie and rookie years. Obviously, this can be decided down the road, but I think by narrowing the range of cards to collect I'll be able to afford a more impressive collection of his earliest licensed cards.
I was able to make significant progress yesterday adding my 33-36th unique Luis Severino cards. Three autographs put me at 7 total as well. I had to fight the urge to buy a gorgeous framed signed 11x14 of his, but I think I made the right call by staying on track and attacking my want lists.
I'll hopefully be back tomorrow to share the experience I had with another one of the Yankees young stars.

Three More for the Mantle Project! Part 1
Hey guys, Drew back here! As I mentioned in my last post, while I haven't been very active in the blogging world of late, I've certainly still been involved in the hobby. I attended the White Plains card show last Sunday, mainly to add players to my signed Mickey Mantle photo I've been working on! I got to meet 3 players that day (2 of which I'd met previously), and added autograph #39, 40, and 41 to the picture!
First up was Tommy John, who I'd met back in April 2011 as well, but was relatively unimpressed with. Back in 2011, he signed a Yankees custom I made of him in between signing 8x10 after 8x10 for the JP's Sports company, so we didn't really get to say much. However, I had a funny feeling that I was just unlucky that day, and there was more to the man with his own surgery than I thought. Sure enough, I was right! The cool thing was, my friend Matt and I were toying with my mom's nice camera, and we found out how to take pictures while recording. Fortunately, we got our whole conversation recorded, and I posted it on YouTube for you guys to watch! Check it out, and make sure to turn your volume up!
Yeah, simply put, Tommy John is an awesome guy. Between the story about him and Al Rosen, the priest comments, and his opinion on Jim Coates; I could not have been better entertained, and this experience completely made up for the last one!
John signed directly below Lee Smith on the right hand side, and officially become the 39th autograph in the project; the 10th that I acquired since I won it!Be sure to be on the lookout for the next few players I got the chance to meet! Have a good one guys, and See Ya!

Perhaps the Greatest 'Lefty' of All!
Hey guys, Drew back here! Man, it sure will be tough to follow up yesterday's story, however, I'm going to try. There was one more player on our autograph radar following Cal Ripken Jr. last Saturday, and I almost feel bad for saying that I overlooked the fact that I was meeting him. However, I'm sure I'm not the only person who has overlooked this guy before, because he pitched during a time of pitching dominance. He went down as one of the best left handed pitchers ever, however; and certainly should be recognized more often for his remarkable achievements. Yes, I am indeed talking about "Lefty" himself, Steve Carlton!
Believe me when I tell you, I sure did have to save up for this show! I got a little nervous while waiting in line for Ripken; knowing that Carlton's session was about to end, although I couldn't really do anything about it. The Ripken representatives told us they'd hold our spot in line so I could go run down and get Carlton, but by looking at the line remaining for him, I didn't want to take any chances. So, following Ripken, we all ran downstairs to see if he was still signing, and luckily for us, he was just getting up to conclude the signing when I ran up to him! I handed the JP's Sports guy my ticket and sort of rushed myself into asking Carlton to sign the ball for me. He was kind enough to do so, and although he didn't say a whole lot else, we thanked him for allowing us to get our chance, and he posed for a picture as well.
Fortunately for us, Carlton has one of the best signatures in the Hall of Fame, and I was lucky to get one, with the HOF 94 inscription to go with it! I had this one certified for $6 by JSA as well (they run specials on the players who sign at the shows), and it looks real nice propped up in a ball cube along with my other baseballs! I've been jealous of my friend Mike for years, because we once split a box of 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes, and he pulled a Carlton relic autograph numbered to 10. I loved that card, however now I've got my 1st Lefty auto to match it with! And it feels good! 329 Wins, 3.22 Lifetime ERA, 4,136 strikeouts, and 4 more Cy Young's than the immortal Nolan Ryan? C'MON MAN! Give this man some loving!
I'd love to say that was all for my fantastic card show experience, however I'm not quite done, as you'll see over the next few days! Hope everyone has enjoyed the stuff so far, because I know I certainly have!

October 1st White Plains Card Show Recap! Part 1!
Hey everyone, Drew back here. I hope you all remember me, because it's been over a week. Sorry about the slack everyone, I wish I could be more active but with my busy life nowadays with school its very hard to keep the site running. However, this past weekend I spent majority of my Saturday with Dad and one of my best friends Matt at the White Plains show! I think we made out incredibly well, even though I didn't go overly prepared and were on short notice before we decided to confirm we were going for sure. To start off the recap, here are the many new additions to my growing Robinson Cano collection! I thought Cano deserved his own post after his incredible Game 1 performance in the ALDS, smashing a grand slam and driving in 6 runs in the Yankees win! Way to go Robby Cano!
See Ya!
PART 1:
ROBINSON CANO!
I didn't hope to accomplish anything overly specific at the show in terms of buying cards, I just wanted to add some nice ones to my collection. I think I did a pretty decent job, take a look:
Leading off was this card out of 2011 Bowman, part of the "Bowman's Best" insert set. It cost me a dollar and I figured why not because it was an all around nice looking card! I haven't picked up nearly any 2011 cards of either one of my PC players- Cano and Swisher, but when I do, I buy in bulk!
I find it ironic how clutch Cano was the night following all of these pickups. I had a feeling this postseason could bring an even bigger jumpstart to his card prices, so I definitely tried to help the collection while I could. Out of 2011 Topps Heritage, here is Cano's bat relic card. I like the look of this card but I think they honestly could have done away with the yellow bottom design. It's a simple but effective look, and I got this as well as the next card for $15 together!
I came to this seller frequently throughout the show. Yes, there were hundreds of tables, but this guy's low priced Yankees relics and autos had me biting all day. This one was out of 2008 UD Baseball Heroes, numbered out of only 50! Its cards like these that really pop, especially the blue parallel. Plus with the hint of a pinstripe, I couldn't go wrong!
This card was actually my final pickup of the show, that Dad actually bought for me. He had a few spare singles and we put together enough money to buy this 2006 Allen & Ginter jersey relic of don't ya know? Robby Cano. I absolutely love any relic or autograph from any year of the Ginter line, and this card has to be one of my favorite cards of Cano in my PC. Again, this one has a pinstripe, and with this card I now only need his newest relic out of 2011 Ginter to complete the chase of his relics in the product.
Finally, the most expensive Cano card of the day was this 2011 Topps Triple Threads five piece bat relic, spelling out "Robby". Numbered only 12 of 27, this is definitely one of the lowest numbered cards I own of his, and I love its design. Triple Threads is such an expensive product but if you hit big, I think it can be well worth it! I would be happy with this pull, but then again I did buy the card for $25, instead of paying a good $100 on a pack of it.
Anyways, I hope by now you can tell that Cano is certainly one of my favorites on the current Yankee team! At this moment I have 172 unique cards of his, and will have a few more incoming! Be sure to stay tuned for more card show review posts and future posts!
See Ya!

Today's the Day!
Hey everyone, Drew back here. As you read this I will probably be heading on my way down to White Plains with my dad and my friend Mike to attend the "East Coast National"! This will be my 3rd straight year of going to the biggest show in the area, and hopefully, I think I'm coming prepared this time. Granted I've went to a lot of shows at the County Center but this show is typically bigger than the rest. I will meet 4 players, rounding up in about $190 of autograph guests. Yes, I'm ridiculous, but hey, better do what you love doing while you're young!
So I'll leave the surprise going until I get back so you can see my new additions to the collection, and I'll give you all the review just like I did last time, in the order of how it happened. I've been super excited for this all summer, and here we go!

White Plains Card Show Recap 3/27/11! Part 2!
Hey guys, Drew back here. Today we continue the mini series of White Plains card show pickups that I got last Sunday. This time I'm going to show you some of the newer cards I picked up as well as sharing the stories behind them!

2011 Topps Heritage Nick Swisher Green Refractor SP

2011 Topps Heritage Nick Swisher Green Refractor SP
This card cost me $5, which I thought at first was very steep for an insert card. However, I looked at some of the listings for this card, and it seems like the price I paid was somewhat fair. This was my only Swisher pickup at this show, but its a really nice card. Sometimes picking up a card without a bat or jersey relic or a scribble turns out nicer.

2007 Tristar Autothentics Blue Elvis Andrus Auto /250

2007 Tristar Autothentics Blue Elvis Andrus Auto /250
I bought this card as well as the next card from the same seller. He seemed like a fairly nice guy, so I wanted to buy a little off of him. Andrus may not be Jeter, but he's turning out to be a great young shortstop. Plus, he has a really cool autograph! From counting, I think there's a good 17 or 18 loops in that entire autograph, and I feel bad for him because signing like that so many times has to hurt after a while! This is a nice card in person, but if it was on card I would like it more, since the sticker auto seems to be dirty on the corners and takes away from the appearance of the card.

2004 Upper Deck Legends Graig Nettles Autograph

2004 Upper Deck Legends Graig Nettles Autograph
Over the years, I've managed to pick up quite a few Yankees autographs, especially of players from the 1970's era. However, a few always eluded me, and this was one of them. Graig Nettles is one of those Yankees that should have been given more of an opportunity at the Hall of Fame. Had Brooks Robinson, possibly THE best 3rd baseman of all time, not scooped up all the Gold Gloves at the time, Nettles would've won a few Gold Gloves more than the 2 he owns today. He was an All Star, a Yankee captain, a strong power hitter, and a World Series champion, and I'm happy to finally add his auto to my collection, especially on a card that describes him so much.

1994 Classic Cream of the Crop Derek Jeter RC

1994 Classic Cream of the Crop Derek Jeter RC
The seller who sold me the previous 2 cards threw this in for free, and while it's not overly valuable and comparable to his top rookies, its a nice card of Derek Jeter before he began to make millions of bucks. The countdown to 3,000 hits begins Thursday, and I never could be more excited for the newest season!
2008 UD SPX Dan Uggla Autograph
Dan Uggla's been one of those players I've grown a lot of appreciation for over the past couple of seasons. I took him on both of my fantasy baseball teams this year, after he hit an incredible year last year for my team. He hits a lot of home runs and drives in a lot of runs, which is rare to find in a second baseman. He might not be as good as Robby Cano, but I think with one more good season Chase Utley will no longer be the 2nd best second baseman in the game.

2008 Topps Triple Threads Andre Ethier Triple Relic Auto /99

2008 Topps Triple Threads Andre Ethier Triple Relic Auto /99
When this guy is healthy, he sure can hit! He was on my fantasy team last year, and when games counted, he always showed up. If he can limit injuries and stay consistent, he could have an excellent season this year! His autograph sure is atrocious but the card looks nice, and is only numbered to 99. It's been a while since I got a card from this set, so I felt like it was about time to get another.

2008 UD SPX Andy Pettitte Patch /99

2008 UD SPX Andy Pettitte Patch /99
Mike had a really fun time at the show, especially when it came to patches. He bought 2 patches himself and hopefully I can get a picture of them to show off on here. But, this one I had to claim dibs on, and I'm so happy I did. For a nice price of $8 from my favorite dealer at the entire show, a guy named Hunter, I got this 3 color patch of Andy along with a small jersey piece with a pinstripe! Talk about all in one! Even though he's not shown as a Yankee and the patch is clearly from an Astros uniform, it will safely rest in my Yankees collection!

2005 Upper Deck Heroes Wade Boggs Auto /99

2005 Upper Deck Heroes Wade Boggs Auto /99
My final pickup of the day was a good one. It took me literally an hour of pacing around the show with about $30 on me, trying to decipher what I wanted most. This Wade Boggs autograph was the one I walked home with, and I couldn't be happier. Again, I bought the card from Hunter, my favorite seller of all of the ones I've dealt with, and I couldn't have found a better place to give my money to. Boggs was an outstanding player, maybe more notably for Boston, but he won a World Series with the Yankees in 1996, something the Red Sox could never deliver their All Star. He retired with over 3,000 hits, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005 along with Cubs second baseman Ryne Sandberg.
What do you think of my/dad's pickups? We've got a little more to come still, so stay tuned for that!
See Ya!

Big Day Tomorrow!
Hey guys, Drew back here. I have not made any sort of statement on the whole "returning" thing, but I had a loaded week and no time to do anything. I had my final CCD class ever, and I got a 73 on the final. Well, I was just looking to pass haha. I had a game last night and I certainly delivered, going 2-4 and all 4 times up I reached base (reached on error, fielder's choice), I drove in 2 runs and stole 2 bases. My team is now 10-0 and we are looking real good!
Tomorrow is a big day for me, as we have another game later and I'm going to the White Plains show! My friend is coming with me for his first time, and I hope he enjoys it! Of course I'll be doing a rundown of the show soon as well afterwards, but I'm not sure when I'll be done.
I can't guarantee a return to the blog, sorry everyone, after June I'll be completely back posting a ton, we have state tests every week plus other tests and projects, which ='s no time to blog.
See Ya!

A day I'll never forget (Part 6)
Hey guys Drew back here, and this is the final part of our mini-series, What did I win???
CHAPTER 6
WHAT DID I WIN???
WHAT DID I WIN???
So, my dad & I walked by a free raffle thing to win a Joba Chamberlain auto baseball which would be given away at 3:00. There were 3 raffles going on that day, it was 1:15 at the time, 15 minutes after the last raffle should have been chosen. But it wasn't and we didn't know it. We needed to see Dave Parker and Cecil Fielder still, so we headed over there. On our way there we heard on the announcements "Drew M. has won a box of 2009 Topps Heritage, please report to the front to get it!" My dad & I were psyched, but we were in line to see the guys and if we didn't get the box immedietely it would be given to someone else. Well, they gave it away, and we didn't hear about it, so after we met the players we went back for the prize, and the guy told us "We had to give it away earlier, but I'll give you a $50 gift card for any one vendor for today only. So I knew what to do: bust a box!
So we went back to the vender I bought packs from earlier, and I checked out the boxes. They had mostly just 2009 stuff but the packs spanned the last couple years. I decided to get a box of 2009 Topps Allen & Ginter! (no Gint-A-Cuffs this time) I got it for a total of $25, the best deal you can get on that stuff. There starting price was only $75 too, a better price than Blowout Cards! So when we got home, Joemama and I broke the box, here's the recap:

Carlos Beltran Jersey
Nate McLouth Relic
Overall Opinions: Well this box was kind of a let down but I still can't complain for the price I got it for. The 3 hits were all decent, although I'm pretty sure the Crowley is a short printed relic. The Beltran & McLouth are definitely up for trade and the Crowley I will trade for a Yankee or something but other than that I will probably keep it, not because I care for Survivor at all but because it's different, and thats what this product is all about! No matter what this is always a fun break, good or bad, you'll still get some beautiful cards and some strange and interesting, even humorous cards! If you are looking to have 30 minutes of fun (if you're slow like me with box breaks) get this stuff. Right now, it's my product of the year. Although I didn't get a good box, I still have it graded the same way, A. This box break deserves a B, so that is what this box gets!
Well, I had a great time at this card show. I appreciate all the comments and feedback, and I can't wait to go back! Sometime tomorrow I'll have my Allen & Ginter wantlist posted, so I can dump away those 67 doubles! See Ya later!

A day I'll never forget Part 1
Hey guys, Drew back here, just getting back from the huge card show I went to, and I had a blast. I went with my dad and we met a bunch of players, spent a lot of $, and had a lot of fun! So, since I got SO much at this place, I decided to break this up into a couple parts. This is the 1st part
The Introduction
Hey guys, its a beautiful day to be indoors! Nice and sunny and very hot, here in NY, the tropical rainforest award winner for this year! I'm at a card show in White Plains, NY, one that someone went to, and I jumped on the bandwagon after her ad. So, right when I walked in, we got our tickets, and they gave me a little pack of cards. Some mixed 07-08 Fleer Basketball, some SP Rookie Threads football, some Chirography football, a Jason Bay Goudey 2007 Card, and a jersey card of Sam Cassell, which is for trade! Here are some of those cards:
Hey, they're free! Everything in this lot is available for trade, so jump in and snatch them out!
Next I got prepared for meeting the players that were there: Al Oliver (freebie), Bill Madlock (freebie), Steve Carlton, Dave Winfield, Dave Parker, Orlando Cepeda, & Cecil Fielder. Whitey Ford was signing tomorrow, but I figured to get an 8 x 10 of him so I could send it through the mail. He charged about $100 an autograph, which is crazy considering I could get it signed ttm for $25! So I picked an 8 x 10 of Cecil Fielder to get signed, the picture has him in a Yankee uniform. I think I may start to get 8 x 10's autographed by Yankees, I have 4 already!
So, I'm about to enter the cathedral of cards! Next post has pictures and details on the stuff next!

By the way, the poll on the right is a new poll! (It won't be on the right for long) VOTE!!!
Hey guys, Drew back here, with big news. As Marie from A Cardboard Problem brought this up, it gave me some motivation! I'm going to White Plains tomorrow for a Card Show!!! This is the 1st I've been to in around 2 years, I had a place I used to go to, but the owner retired so it stopped! My dad tells me White Plains has big shows, and I'm really looking forward to it. I will get to meet 2 guys. There names are Bill and Al, and thanks to Bad Wax's free weekend signings post, I know whose autos I'm getting for free!
Here (as reported by chemgod) is the lineup for players signing at the shows!
Today: Gene "The Stick" Michael
Tomorrow (I'm seeing these guys!): Al Oliver, Bill Madlock
Sunday: Frank Howard
Sweet! I think I'll look for some of their cards I own tonight, and maybe I'll get a ROLB for them to both sign! Speaking of these, please tell me how this one costs so much!
Card wise, I think I'll try to get some of the Yankee rookie cards I need, fill some sets, and get some other good Yankee stuff! I've had some success at these shows, one of them got me a favorite player, Brian Bruney! Hopefully this turns out to be great, which it will! Wish me luck, and hopefully I'll come back with some nice stuff. To end this all off, I'll show the players (with me) pictures in the past! (Remember, these are from 2 years ago!)
1: Brain Bruney and Me
2: Roy White and Me

*** UPDATE THIS SHOW IS BIGGER THAN I THOUGHT!!! It is the East Coast National, with over 300 tables, and 7 retired players will be there tomorrow!***
Al Oliver
Bill Madlock
Cecil Fielder
Dave Parker
Orlando Cepeda
Steve Carlton
Dave Winfield
Some of them charge huge amounts of money, ahem, Dave Winfield. Well, at least I'll be able to see them! Wish me luck!
