2009 UD Piece of History Box Break Review Part 2- The Grades

2009 Upper Deck A Piece of History Baseball Hobby Box - Click Image to Close

Hey guys, Drew back here. I'm still posting Christmas loot, yes, I know, we are almost 20 days past Christmas, not to mention almost halfway through January, but the show that I run on this blog leads me to believe I'll always be behind. Ok, before I continue blabbing on here are the grades for this product:

Design: I'll say it once and I'll say it again, this set has a great design. Everyone thinks it's so meaningless yet it has possibly the most underrated set design of them all. Gray is a very selective color, only some people don't mind it. Others feel like they want to fall asleep. I am more of the 1st type, if it has a cool design to it and isn't just plain gray I like it. The inserts were very well done, and if you want to see them again scroll down to the post underneath this and watch the video, I'm too lazy to post it again. The Timeless Moments cards are AMAZING looking, and I really like the Cuts from the Same Cloth. Now, a problem people have about the set is the Historical Moments, that they should have their own sets for things like that. I mean, a turkey? Well, I guess I just need the autograph and game used for the trifecta because I have it's rookie card! But, there are some cool topics and they use great photography. Plus in 8th grade I'm learning about half of those things so it's pretty cool when school ties into cards, well not too cool but hey it's an easier way to study! Design Grade: B+

Price: Again, I did not buy any of these boxes, but I gotta say that this is a pretty awesome deal. You get 3 hits for 40 bucks, including a piece of movie worn memorabilia. My box wasn't overly great, the expected re-sell value would have to be $15-20 bucks. But, if you want a fun, colorful, and cool break for a cheap price, leave this set as an option. I wish more boxes had prices like this... Price Grade: A+

Hits: As I said in the price section the hits were not very good. Nothing against Aaron Cunningham & Rafael Furcal (night owl again???), I know Furcal is pretty good and Cunningham has plenty of future time, but how in the world do you count that as a hit??? The Adam Sandler shirt piece was definitely a cool hit, and although I hate to talk about book value (but I do a lot I know), when you spend money like this you wanna have fun, and get the money back you spent. I know I got a bad box, there are much better cards in the set than Furcal & Cunningham, so I still have faith in this product. Hits Grade: C

Overall:
Well, this set is not nearly as awesome as the 2008 version but it's still pretty nice. For the money you spend you should be happy, thanks to my grandparents for getting it for me again! The Adam Sandler is NO DOUBT PC, especially since he's my favorite actor. I would have bought it in the future, but it's so nice to just pull it! So, overall an ok box, with the all the nice inserts it turned out pretty cool. Overall Grade: C

One more box to go! See Ya!

Hey guys, Drew back here, I'm going to do a little more work on the blog today but first, part 1 of my Piece of History Christmas break! This box was a bit of a downer, but you have good boxes and bad boxes. I did get 1 card I really wanted though so I'm happy. I'm still debating if I should collect the set or not, because I still need quite a few from 2008. Hopefully that changes a week from yesterday! Anyway, here is my break of Piece of History, but first, the product information:

There are many numbered parallels inserted in the box, but there are also a ton of 20th Anniversary insert garbos. The part that makes this set unique is the Hollywood Memorabilia card. You will be able to possibly obtain memorabilia from stars like Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, and many more. Here is what I pulled in my box:

- Adam Sandler "Spanglish" Movie Worn Memorabilia (PC!)

Well, overall this box was a bit of a downer, everything except the Josh Hamilton, Adam Sandler, and Yanks are for trade. I really like the design of the Hamilton, so I think I'm gonna hang on to it right now, maybe for future TTM. The Sandler was an awesome pull, because he is my favorite actor and I would've bought or traded for it soon anyway, so it's nice to pull it. It's got some dinged corners, which kinda sucks but the design sucks anyway so it's no biggie. I have had great luck with the movie memorabilia cards from 2008 and 2009 though, I had 4 from last year but traded 2, still have my Superman cape and my Brad Pitt shirt, and of course the Sandler is the next one in that club. Alright, check out the video highlights below to see pictures of the cards, but for now, See Ya!

Nice little pack recap!

Hey guys, Drew back here, after taking a trip to a local mall today, I found some packs at a sports store and got a nice card! I'm giving you a little more time on yesterday's question, you gotta still get the last player!

So I found a binder full of some random inserts and such, most from one of my sets I need to complete, 2008 UD Goudey. I found 5 cards, and I didn't notice I already had one (the Tony Perez card, FT) but the other 4 I needed for the set (30- Youk, 32-Billy Williams, 145- Ashburn, 162- Cepeda). So they are crossed off now. If you want to see what I need from that set, check out this link.

I am a stupid kid at times. I have not had any luck with this next set all year, except earlier when I pulled a nice Victor Martinez patch (Red Sox-Jo!). Today I bought 2 packs of the aftermath of one of my favorite sets, A Piece of History, here's the recap:

Pack 2 (non hit pack, I bought it after I pulled the nice card, this isn't as sweet)
-Brandon Webb (the 1st card in the set)
-Carlos Zambrano (a fat dude that likes to knock over water coolers)
-Hanley Ramirez/Dan Uggla/Hermida Franchise Members 3 Blue #ed/999

-20th Anniversary Kentucky beats Syracuse (I have so many stinkin Kentucky Wildcats 20th anniversary cards!)
-Josh Geer RC (He looks 40 already)
-Historical Moment Elevator Invented (I wish I had an elevator in my house, I'd go up and down all day!)
-Luis Cruz RC (scrub)

The Good Pack
-Jake Peavy (Why is he in the American league?)
-Alex Rodriguez (NICE, I need it. You don't)
-Ian Kinsler (NICE, you need it. I don't)
-Historical Moments Discovery of New York (A pizza guy named Giovanni found it)
-Travis Snider RC (Slowly and steadily I end up with one of all his cards!)
-Historical Moments Pearl Harbor (Yawn, I feel like I'm in Social Studies)

And the big mojo hit of the day:

2009 UD Piece of History Michael Bowden 15/25 Rookie Auto!

Yeah more Red Sox-Jo! I could always use a card of the next Yankee killer! Seriously though this is a pretty nice pull, very low numbered, and it books from $25-30 bucks (I'm assuming). Thanks for reading, and vote on that poll! See Ya!

Easter Recap!

Easter 2009

Hey guys, Drew back here with an Easter Recap, and I like the scanning with the slideshow so I think I'll start to do that for a lot of things. Here is my smaller easter recap:

So, I got the blaster and the 3 packs from Easter, I got the 2 packs of Piece of history and the 2 packs of Absolute by myself, and my dad bought the 2 mixed $2 lots at the hobby shop. When we got there, a man in the car next to us in the parking lot was trying to sell some old rookie cards. The guy drops his cigarette and shows us the bag, offering a good deal of $ for it. He showed us old Manny rookies and Jeter rookies, and we said no. My dad & I go in, with that man following us, and he asks to trade the cards with the cashier, or sell them. He pulled out a Mike Mussina after he knew I declined enough offers to let him know I wouldn't buy anything from him, and gave me it for free. How bout' that! A free Moose rookie card from Upper Deck! That was nice of the guy to do that, and the funny thing was that in 1 of the lots I pulled Moose's Score rookie card in it. So now, I have 2 Mussina rookie cards.

So, how about those hits at the end of the video. Many people don't really know Josh Johnson, but he is 2-0 this year and last night he beat Johan Santana in a big pitchers dual, going 9 innings giving up only 1 run. He is one of my fantasy pitchers, and I really am liking the guy right now! So getting a relic of him is pretty nice in my opinion. In the video I didn't show the base because it would be a long video if I did, but if anybody needs to know, comment on the video asking to. The Martinez patch is sweet, and it is numbered out of 25! Sweet! I really love the 09 UD Piece of History, and I can't wait to have a box in my hands! Probably for the 3rd Quarter Spectacular (the end of April) I will get one. So far I've gotten 2 Victor Martinez relics in 09, one in a blaster of Series 1 and one in this. The base cards in the set are amazing, and the inserts are nice too. The Varitek is numbered out of 999 too. So there you have it guys, that was my nice Easter break. Thanks for looking and See Ya!
