2008 UD SP Legendary Cuts Box Break Part 1

2008 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts Baseball Hobby Box - Click Image to Close

Hey guys, Drew back here, with the final box of my birthday breaks. My dad felt bad for me after the Sweet Spot Classic box so he bought me a box of 2009 Signature Stars. I didn't really want that, so we took it back and got this. Lucky us! Here's the product info...

PRODUCT CONTENT
12 Packs Per Box
4 Cards Per Pack
48 Cards Per Box
6 Yankee Stadium Legacy Cards Per Box
1 Numbered SP per Box
4 Game Used Memorabilia Cards Per Box
2 Autographs Per Case
1 Cut Autograph per Case

MY BOX BREAK:

Base Set: 41/100

The base design is classic for sure in this set, I love how the headshots accompany the black and white action shot. This is one of my favorite sets I must say, and I might try to build the set.

Yankee Stadium Legacy: 6/7,000

What a huge set, they're getting very boring. I must have at least 100-150 of these. I like the Gehrig and DiMaggio's though.

Base Short Print: 1/100 (Andrew Jackson /550)

Nice card of a cool old President, and it's for trade.

Destination Stardom Jersey: 1 (Russell Martin)

Already gone! Not a great first hit.

Destined for History Jersey: 1 (Adam Dunn w/pinstripe)

This is a pretty nice box, pulled 2 Adam Dunn hits in 4 boxes, I like the pinstripe though.

Generations Dual Memorabilia: 1 (Mattingly/Helton)

This is where this box starts getting good. First, a nice hit for my Yankees PC, a dual bat/jersey of Don Mattingly and also Todd Helton. A pretty good pull I must say. But it gets better...

Legendary Memorabilia: 1 (ROBERTO CLEMENTE /99!!!)

WOW!!! I'm still shocked I pulled this! I love this card, and it's one of the top jersey cards of my collection! This is an awesome card, pretty sure it books from $40-50! But wait... there's more...

Memorable Moments 1/1 Insert: 1 (Torii Hunter!)

What a great decision to take back Signature Stars! My first 1/1 ever pulled! The card has nothing spectacular but it's a 1/1 and it's a sweet pull. This card has to book for around $30, and again, I'm not a big fan of BV, just like to see how much they go for!

Wow... what an awesome box! Let me know what you think! Part 2 is coming up soon, and See Ya!

TTM #5- The New Highlight of my Collection!!!

Hey guys, Drew back here, I have been psyched to own this piece in my collection and I couldn't wait to show you all. I took a chance at getting charged 30 bucks for this through the mail, but after a nice letter explaining (and highlighting) that I'm only 13 and my grades are great, I got this back for free, signed by one of the greatest living baseball players right now. Here it is!

First a little pamphlet that he included...

Those are the 8 good reasons, click on the picture to read them (you also need good eyes)

Well, here is the big thing....

AWESOME!!!

SWEET!!!

BEST

CATCHER

ALL

TIME!!!!

I am shocked to have this signed. It is going in a frame in my room, but I don't know if I should get it authenticated first. Any way to get it authenticated without sending it in the mail? I don't really want to risk it, but I want something to ensure it's real so I can brag about it even more. I might be going to the White Plains show next month and at the August show I think there were authenticators, but I wasn't sure. Let me know what you think, through the mails are only going downhill for me from here, which kinda sucks, well, I still have another 8 x 10 of a Yankee legend heading in the mail. I'll let you know how that goes. If you want Yogi's address please email me (yanks1996wsc@gmail.com) or go to this site: http://www.yogiberramuseum.org/. Thanks Yogi, and see ya!

Nice little pack recap!

Hey guys, Drew back here, after taking a trip to a local mall today, I found some packs at a sports store and got a nice card! I'm giving you a little more time on yesterday's question, you gotta still get the last player!

So I found a binder full of some random inserts and such, most from one of my sets I need to complete, 2008 UD Goudey. I found 5 cards, and I didn't notice I already had one (the Tony Perez card, FT) but the other 4 I needed for the set (30- Youk, 32-Billy Williams, 145- Ashburn, 162- Cepeda). So they are crossed off now. If you want to see what I need from that set, check out this link.

I am a stupid kid at times. I have not had any luck with this next set all year, except earlier when I pulled a nice Victor Martinez patch (Red Sox-Jo!). Today I bought 2 packs of the aftermath of one of my favorite sets, A Piece of History, here's the recap:

Pack 2 (non hit pack, I bought it after I pulled the nice card, this isn't as sweet)
-Brandon Webb (the 1st card in the set)
-Carlos Zambrano (a fat dude that likes to knock over water coolers)
-Hanley Ramirez/Dan Uggla/Hermida Franchise Members 3 Blue #ed/999

-20th Anniversary Kentucky beats Syracuse (I have so many stinkin Kentucky Wildcats 20th anniversary cards!)
-Josh Geer RC (He looks 40 already)
-Historical Moment Elevator Invented (I wish I had an elevator in my house, I'd go up and down all day!)
-Luis Cruz RC (scrub)

The Good Pack
-Jake Peavy (Why is he in the American league?)
-Alex Rodriguez (NICE, I need it. You don't)
-Ian Kinsler (NICE, you need it. I don't)
-Historical Moments Discovery of New York (A pizza guy named Giovanni found it)
-Travis Snider RC (Slowly and steadily I end up with one of all his cards!)
-Historical Moments Pearl Harbor (Yawn, I feel like I'm in Social Studies)

And the big mojo hit of the day:

2009 UD Piece of History Michael Bowden 15/25 Rookie Auto!

Yeah more Red Sox-Jo! I could always use a card of the next Yankee killer! Seriously though this is a pretty nice pull, very low numbered, and it books from $25-30 bucks (I'm assuming). Thanks for reading, and vote on that poll! See Ya!

A day I'll never forget (Part 3)

Hey guys, here's part 3 of our card show breakdown, the last of the night! More will be posted tomorrow!

CHAPTER 3 THE HITS

Well, I bought a TON of game used cards at this show, here is the list of the cards I bought:

Football

Mark Sanchez 3 2009 Rookie Cards!
My dad bought me these 3 for 5 or 10 bucks, I forgot, and they are nice! One is the Topps base, one is the Topps Magic, and one from is from 2009 Hit and its with Matthew Stafford, my 1st RC of him. Sweet Stuff!

Leon Washington 2006 SPX Rookie Jersey Auto!
This is an awesome card! It features an "event worn" game used piece, stupid rookie premiere, but with the addition of his autograph, this makes out to be a sweet card! I got this for like $10 bucks! It is also numbered 953/1650! Sick Card overall!

Patrick Willis 2007 Bowman Chrome RC Refractor #ed/1079!
This one came for free, along with the next one, in a great deal that I think we stole from this guy! 18 bucks for 5 sweet cards, and this is an awesome freebie! He was selling this card for $25 and I got it for free!

Tony Hunt 2007 Bowman Chrome RC Refractor #ed/1079!
Like the last mentioned, this one I got for free! Hunt apparently is a decent full back for the Eagles right now. That wraps up the football purchases, time for baseball!

Baseball

2003 Upper Deck Play Ball Joe Dimaggio 1956 Game Hitting Streak Card!
This is an interesting odd ball sort of card I bought for $4. There is a thick card of the box score for each game in Dimaggio's hit streak! This is game #43 of the streak, in a 7-2 win over the Red Sox! Sweet! Joe D was 2-4 in this game with an RBI. It's a tough card to explain but you'll see in the pictures! For $4, a card of Joe D, you can't go wrong!

1992 Bowman Mariano Rivera Rookie Card
This is a card I hunted down for a while, and I finally have it! This now makes my Yankee rookie card PC a lot easier, with 4 guys I need right now that would cost a dollar or less to buy! I got this for $20, I consider it a bargain! I'm lovin this one, a huge piece of my Yankee collection!

2005 Donruss Greats Yankee Clippings Mickey Rivers Jersey Card!
You saw Mickey and you thought Mantle I betcha, well, you're wrong. A Mick the Quick jersey card definitely was a nice addition, especially for $5. A nice deal and a sweet card, especially the jersey piece in the shape of the Yankees logo!

2001 Fleer Platinum National Patch Time Dave Winfield Relic w/pinstripe!
This guy seriously made my day, and I'll explain that tomorrow, getting to see him was great! He is a huge guy! This card is sweet and would be sweeter signed. But an $100 autograph, I'll pass. So I got this card for $10, not too shabby! Sweet!

2007 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic Memorabilia Don Mattingly Jersey Relic!
A very sweet Donnie baseball jersey, that I got for $7.50, a pretty nice deal! So I got a Mattingly jersey to go along with the Winfield, or the opposite way around, and this is a card I've wanted! I need his autograph to get the Triple Play of cards: a rookie card, auto, and jersey card! I know I've completed that for Cano, but not sure who else. So, the money has added up and total I spent $175, but there is more!

2007 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic Memorabilia Goose Gossage Relic w/pinstripe!
Another cool jersey card from a Yankee! Goose was awesome, and hopefully someday I could meet him! I picked this one up in that deal I mentioned in the football section, so another Hall of Famer in the books! I love Sweet Spot Classic!

2008 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts Nolan Ryan Legendary Memorabilia #ed 26/34!
Well, I saved the best one for last! This was also in that deal, 18.00 for the Leon Washington auto jersey, this, the Goose, and the 2 chrome rookies for free! This is a sick card, a highlight in my collection! Please tell me did I get an amazing deal at that vender or what? Overall I was pleased by the huge selection of game used, and although I didn't see it all, it was cool!

So, tomorrow I hopefully will have up Chapters 4,5, & 6 in my masterpiece book only availible on drewscards! See Ya!

Chapter 5: All Star Autos!

A huge piece of my collection!

And no it's not a card!

This is one of my favorite pieces of my collection, although it isn't in great shape.

On the top there is a bad spot, I don't know what to do.

Well, this is how that is in my house. This was a couple years ago, and my mom told me that Hall of Famer Johnny Bench was coming to my mom's hospital to give a speech about many injuries (my mom's a nurse), and I wanted his autograph. So my mom went to the speech, and told her boss that I wanted to try to get his autograph, so she came through in the clutch! She gave mom this autographed invitation, I guess I should say, to give to me! So I ended up with a Johnny Bench autograph, that sadly I damaged. Is there any way to make this look better?

Gint-A-Cuffs Packs 11 & 12 (1st Hit!!!)

Hey guys, Drew back here. After a long awaited 1st hit of the box, we have now made it. I scored my best pack of the box and had a decent other pack. Here are the highlights:

Pack 11
Ichiro: 0

Jair Jurrjens: 0
Brad Hawpe: 0
Mike Pelfrey: 0

Alex Rodriguez: -1 (Awesome card, but doesn't help the matter)

Justin Duchscherer SP: 5 Points (And Bingo was his name O!!!)

Erik Bedard Mini A&G Back: 2 Points (It's ALIVE!!!)

Mark Teahen National Pride: 0

Pack 11 Total: 6
So Far: 56

Pack 12
Chris Young (Arizona): 0 Pts.
Colby Rasmus RC: 0 Pts. (Needed his RC)

Jordan Zimmermann RC: 0 Pts. (Needed him as well)
Fausto Carmona SP: 5 Pts.

Alfonso Soriano Game Used Bat Relic: 8 Pts. (Awesome, of a good player too! I love the border!)

Bobby Crosby Mini A&G Back: 1 Pt. (After I thought it was 2, I noticed it was 1 point just BECAUSE!!!)

Josh Hamilton National Pride: 4 Pts. (Favorite Player List)

Pack 12 Total: 18 Pts.
So Far: 74 Pts.

Well, I still didn't pass Beardy's per pack average of 75, but that was an awesome 2 packs there! The Soriano is currently not for trade, because of the awesome design of the card, but I will trade it to anyone in need for a Yankee relic similar to this. I am going to try to complete the Yankee relics & auto set in this product, but that means I have to go through Mickey Mantle to do so. Tonight I am busy, with 6 or 7 of my friends hanging out for my birthday (July 24th)! So that will be a lot of fun, and I'll see bright and early tomorrow with the next 2! See Ya!

I'm gonna say MOJO a lot in this post

MOJO MOJO MOJO MOJO MOJO MOJO MOJO MOJO MOJO

There, that feels good but won't be the last time I say it in this post. First, I want to say that the new Harry Potter movie, "Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince", was awesome, and if you're a fan of that stuff, go see it. It had a sad ending but the rest of the movie was really good. I have seen all the movies so far, and the only one I read was the 2nd book. In case you didn't know, there are 7 books in the series, and will be 7 movies. This movie was the 6th and the final one should be coming out maybe late next year. So yeah, just wanted to tell you guys that and let's move on.
http://www.thinkhero.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/emma_watson__rupert_grint_and_daniel_radcliffe_harry_potter_and_the_half_blood_prince_movie_image_s.jpg

Next, I want to thank Jay from the Mojo Hand so much for hooking me up with 150 cards from the 2008 UD Goudey set. I won his contest and received the cards today! Everything was packaged well and was in great condition. I also won the bonus contest for this and received this card:

2008 UD Goudey Hunter Pence Jersey Card!

Some other great cards included were:

3 Hit Parade of Champions Minis

10 Sport Royalty Inserts

2 Base Card Short Prints

5 President Inserts

2 President Minis

7 Mini Cards (6 red backs including Sport Royalty, Victorino Blue Back)

And A TON of base!

So thanks Mojo for sending Drew Collector some stuff! I greatly appreciate it, and you guys, if you haven't checked out his blog, please do. In a couple days I will post a wantlist for 2008 Goudey, because since I have quite a bit now, I want to finish it off. So, wish me luck with my packs, I need it!

Lastly, let's go AL! We have won since 1996 if you have been living under a rock and didn't know, and my Yanks did pretty well. Jeter got hit by pitch and seems to be OK, and scored 2 runs, and Teixeira got on base. Mariano Rivera picked up his 4th All Star Game save, the most all time in the All Star Game. What a catch by Crawford also! I watched until the bottom of the 8th, and it wasn't all that interesting of a game, but that play helped things out. 4-3 American League Wins, Crawford is MVP.

And Pedro. The newest member of the 15 Day DL! and the phillies

Talk About A Marlins Hot Box!

Product Review:

Design:
This is one of the best new card designed sets I own. The cards are unbelievably nice, and they fit the sticker autos in perfectly, so even they look good. I love the different color parallels, and I also like the prospect variations as well. The base cards are extremely thick, but I don't think that matters at all! Grade: A+

Price:
I would not have bought this product without Blowout's help. I bought the boxes on one of the weekend specials, and got it for $35 off! Talk about a great deal! I guess I paid up for what I bought with it, but if it was $35 more, I wouldn't have. Grade: B-
Discounted Price Grade: B+

Hits:
These hits are very nice. Finally I don't have to worry about relics, but then, I got one. It turns out that the only jersey card in the set is of Dice-K, and I got it. I'm wondering if it is from Japan or not, or maybe some stupid photo shoot. But, the Hanley is sweet, I really love the design of the blue parallel that they use, which I pulled one of Alejandro De Aza. The Hermida & Bedard autographs are nice too, but the crown jewels of the box is the autograph of Cameron Maybin, who isn't playing well this year, but is a big name prospect whose Bowmans Best Auto ranges from $15 to $40. Grade: A

Overall:
Overall, this box wasn't an A+, but it was around those lines. The Marlins are a good team to get young player autographs in, and I'm pleased. Hanley was rated #1 on Espn for fantasy in the pre-season, so I'm happy to have his autograph. As for Kevin Kouzmanoff (KKK Man), I don't want any more of him. I got some nice #ed cards too, especially the green parallels, and I again, was happy with the box. Overall Grade: A-

So guys, remember to tune for sometime in the next couple weeks for Mike & I to do our annual Split, this time of 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes. I will also post an idea of a rip card trick I thought of sometime soon as well. As for TTMs, I will soon send one out to Mr. Mike Mussina, and it would be sick to get this stuff signed! So, See Ya!

Cooperstown Trip Recap! Great Card Stuff!

Hey guys, It's Drew, and my dad and I just had a fantastic trip to Cooperstown! The Hall of Fame was so cool, my favorite part was the Plaque Hall. Rickey Henderson & Mr. Jim Rice will be joining that soon. I also liked the Babe Ruth exhibit, the pine tar bat, and some of the current team stuff, especially the Yankees. 2008 Topps Stadium Club- 1 Hobby Pack: THIS IS WHERE THE SWEETNESS IS AT!!! This is my pack opening words said at the time:

"Jed Lowrie RC for the Red Sox. Nice, and it is numbered out of 999, nice. Alright, a rookie of Johnny Cueto... not numbered. Looks like we might have 2 hits in this! Jose Reyes base, and the auto is of Tom Gorzelanny. It's another one of those Beam Team Autographs, and it's another one that is not numbered, but, I think we got another hit too! We might have a case hit! Yeah, we do! It's sick, SICKNESS, Look at that! David Ortiz... Autograph, David Ortiz Autograph, triple jersey autograph of David Ortiz! A beautiful card, it is numbered out of 99, UNBELIEVEABLE! Triple Jersey, Autograph of David Ortiz! Woo-Hoo! Definitely paid up for it, probably times 100 of the price! That is sickness! See Ya!"

Well, you can tell I was happy when I saw that, but then again, my Red Sox luck came back again! Please next time when I get something nice it is for the Yankees! But, can't complain with that!

Some other things I got were: the 2009 Yankees Team Set, a complete set of 1999 Fleer Tradition with 150 cards, mostly rookies, and I was able to find 3 Yankee needed rookies in that set! I also got some singles, including a Frank Crosetti Game Used Jersey Card from 2002 UD SP Legendary Cuts for the Yankees PC (not #ed), a needed Cody Ransom RC, a Mark Teixeira RC, a Brett Gardner RC, an Xavier Nady rookie card, a CC Sabathia RC, and another Brian Bruney rookie card (#ed 14/100). My dad also gave me a Frank Robinson Autograph from one of my local stores, and a graded Topps Ken Griffey Jr. RC (graded 10 by USA Collectibles). At Yaz Collectibles, I bought a Roy White auto on a 1968 Topps card, and at the place next door I got a Nick Swisher autograph from 08 Goudey (not #ed). Also at that place they had the card machines where you enter like a quarter of two and got a couple cards. I did the Yankees Card thing twice, getting 6 Don Mattingly cards, a Rickey Henderson from 89 Topps, and a Catfish Hunter 1988 Topps All Star Game card. I entered the other mixed one twice too, and got a Phillies team card from 06 Topps Heritage, a Tino Martinez 94 Donruss, Larry Walker 94 Donruss, John Olerud 94 Donruss, 2 Fred Lynns from 82 Topps, and a Benji Gil RC from 1994 Donruss too. At one of the places if you purchase something for more than $4 you can spin this wheel thing. I didn't have much $ left, but I bought that pack of 08 Topps Chrome for $4 (ended up pulling the Blue Jays RC Auto), and got to spin the wheel. I got the common prize, a little mystery pack, which had a mix of basketball and football: Mike Sanders (BB), Harvey Grant (BB), Rich Camarillo (FB), Andre Rison (FB), Don Mosebar (FB), Sam Perkins (BB), Henry Ellard (FB), a little Super Bowl trivia thing, Mark Kelso (FB), and a nice looking Rod Woodson (FB). The last things I got were a 2005 UD Legendary Cuts Base Set (1-90) for $2.50, with a bunch of HOF'ers, and 3 mixed sets. Two were Yankees mixed sets, based on 80's and 90's players, with rookies of Ricky Ledee & Mike Lowell, and some guys like Willie Randolph, Don Baylor, Tommy John, Don Mattingly, Darryl Strawberry, and more. In the mixed I got some nice looking stuff too, but I won't name all of it. I made a slideshow of the cards I got over the great trip, and here it is...
