Recapping my first Pack War!

Hey guys, Drew back here! And much like my current addiction "How I Met Your Mother" goes, sometimes you need to go backwards in time in order to move forward. So, since I knew most of you would be more interested in hearing about Pete Rose/Rickey Henderson/Johnny Bench, I covered all of those experiences first, but the whole trip actually kicked off before William & I even made it up to Cooperstown. The night before we took off for the Hall, I drove William (with his car) to my local card shop and we picked up a box of 2011 Topps Lineage to play some pack wars with. I'm really not as into the boxes as I used to be, but being able to do this with someone who really knows his players as much as I do was definitely a cool experience.

With that said, I was dominated throughout the entire pack war. William ended up winning 3/4 of the cards along with both autographs and the relic. We did some trading afterwards though and William was generous with his winnings, giving me the ones of my favorite players.

Ever since I laid my eyes on the Montreal Expos throwback hat at Lids earlier this year, I've fallen in love with the team. I do like the Nationals, but I'd rather still see the Expos in baseball rather than say Houston or something. Also, since I recently got the pleasure of meeting Frank Thomas, I've been more and more interested in his cards.

The inserts I wound up with were pretty nice. I got 3 1975 Topps minis: Evan Longoria, Matt Cain, and the David Price you see above. I also added both Hunter Pence inserts, which are both for trade. By far the coolest insert I pulled was the Hank Aaron silk, which was one of the nicer surprises.

William and I worked out a trade afterwards that landed me the 1975 mini relic of Carlos Gonzalez that he pulled! Gonzalez is a pretty solid player, and I love the design of the card. The pinstripe on the relic definitely made the appeal even greater though! I'm not extremely attached to the card, so if you want it please let me know.

All in all, I had a good time playing pack wars for the first time. Hopefully Round 2 will go a little more in my own favor! See Ya!

Trip to a New Collectible Shop!

Hey guys, Drew back here! This post has been long overdue; in fact, this happened before the most recent card show and the Knicks game and everything! After one of my SAT prep courses, my Dad took me to this local collectible store he had gotten his Christmas gifts for me at! It had all sorts of various odds and ends, and surprisingly had a solid selection in cards and memorabilia! After shopping around for a little while, I bought two really nice cards to add to my collection, along with a couple ball cubes!
I hadn't added to my Don Mattingly PC in a while, so this 2005 Playoff Prestige Mattingly/Dave Righetti dual relic looked appealing to me. Numbered out of 250; the card shows two of the Yankees best players during perhaps the team's worst decade. It's really a bummer that Mattingly struggled through back problems, because he certainly had the talent to make the Hall of Fame.
Speaking of the Hall, the second card I added was this beautiful Whitey Ford autograph from 2002 Donruss, numbered 44 of 250! The price on this card was really affordable for a Ford auto, and the scan definitely doesn't do it any justice. It's definitely one of the nicer certified autographs I own, and it features the same picture of Ford that I have signed as an 8x10.

Overall, I was really impressed with the selection this random shop had to offer! They also had a lot of boxes and packs, and their prices were competitive with other shops around here. I'll definitely consider going back there at some point! Thanks Dad for showing it to me!

See Ya!

Easter Recap!

Easter 2009

Hey guys, Drew back here with an Easter Recap, and I like the scanning with the slideshow so I think I'll start to do that for a lot of things. Here is my smaller easter recap:

So, I got the blaster and the 3 packs from Easter, I got the 2 packs of Piece of history and the 2 packs of Absolute by myself, and my dad bought the 2 mixed $2 lots at the hobby shop. When we got there, a man in the car next to us in the parking lot was trying to sell some old rookie cards. The guy drops his cigarette and shows us the bag, offering a good deal of $ for it. He showed us old Manny rookies and Jeter rookies, and we said no. My dad & I go in, with that man following us, and he asks to trade the cards with the cashier, or sell them. He pulled out a Mike Mussina after he knew I declined enough offers to let him know I wouldn't buy anything from him, and gave me it for free. How bout' that! A free Moose rookie card from Upper Deck! That was nice of the guy to do that, and the funny thing was that in 1 of the lots I pulled Moose's Score rookie card in it. So now, I have 2 Mussina rookie cards.

So, how about those hits at the end of the video. Many people don't really know Josh Johnson, but he is 2-0 this year and last night he beat Johan Santana in a big pitchers dual, going 9 innings giving up only 1 run. He is one of my fantasy pitchers, and I really am liking the guy right now! So getting a relic of him is pretty nice in my opinion. In the video I didn't show the base because it would be a long video if I did, but if anybody needs to know, comment on the video asking to. The Martinez patch is sweet, and it is numbered out of 25! Sweet! I really love the 09 UD Piece of History, and I can't wait to have a box in my hands! Probably for the 3rd Quarter Spectacular (the end of April) I will get one. So far I've gotten 2 Victor Martinez relics in 09, one in a blaster of Series 1 and one in this. The base cards in the set are amazing, and the inserts are nice too. The Varitek is numbered out of 999 too. So there you have it guys, that was my nice Easter break. Thanks for looking and See Ya!
