Today's Mail

Hey guys, Drew back here. I stayed home from school today because I caught the stomach bug at my school. Man, if there was a disease football I'd be the best wide receiver! Pretty sure that's 5 colds, swine flu, and a stomach bug since September. Anyway, at least I had some mail waiting for me, one package from Beckett and another from eBay that my mom almost got in trouble for forgetting to pay, ANYWAY, here's what I got, or at least some highlights:

Beckett Contest Giveaway Prize- My 2009 Yankees World Series Set!
Overall, a pretty cool set, but in a way, I'm a little disappointed. I love that Pettitte card, and the other playoff ones, but the rest of them are THE SAME EXACT CARDS FROM TOPPS' FIRST 3 SETS!!!!!! Not good. But, yeah, some of them are cool, and I got these in the set for my PC:

Now for the second dose of mailage.....

2008 Upper Deck Yankee Stadium Legacy Cano Relic
So far this is one of my favorite Cano cards I own, and I only got it for like 10 bucks! Not too shabby for a 2008 case hit. The design is nice and I'm very happy to add it to the collection!

Thanks Beckett for the prize, and see ya!

Play at the Plate Mail

Hey guys, long time no see, I've been extremely busy lately, no time to post, I signed up for winter track to get in shape for baseball season, and I've been dealing with some sore legs, and an annoying cold (5 since school started, and swine!). Track has been fun, although I never have liked running. My friend is running with me so it's getting fun, running through our trail in the woods is awesome. My dad is out in the middle of the woods right now, and I'm gonna go play Rockband with my sister in a few minutes, but I figured I'd show you some stuff I received (on Tuesday) from Brian, the Play at the Plate. I asked for them and sent them, bing bang boom. Thanks Brian for the stuff, I'll look to find you some stuff soon!

By the way, congrats to Joe (Priceless Pursuit) for getting the last trivia question right! Frank Crosetti is the all time leader in games in the World Series (in uniform). He played a total of 29 World Series games with the Yanks, and 93 games as a coach, adding up to 122 World Series in uniform games! Yogi Berra is 2nd all time, with 119 total games, so you guys were very very close to getting it right. Hopefully Grandpa Roy got you this time! Congrats Joe, you'll get a point added to the leaderboard, good job! Go Yanks! See Ya!

Last thing I promise, I won the Yanks 27 Card World Series set on Beckett's Free Stuff Friday yesterday, can't wait to get it!

Well... I wasn't there, but I guess the TV was enough

Hey guys, Drew back here, after sleeping over my friend's house last night, I'm back. I watched a ton of the YES encore of the Yankees parade (my mom said if she wasn't working that day we could've been there) and I wanted to just put some pictures up. One thing I don't get is how Nady & Chien-Mien Wang still get keys to the city and most of the year they were out. I don't know. Enjoy the pics, especially you Yankee hater (yes, all of you)

Yes, A-Rod's hat did look pretty funny, I will say

Yes, it's a topic of discussion

Yeah, I should've been there

See Ya!

Wow! It's Over!

Well guys, it's the moment we all wait for. Everyone loves October baseball, especially when their team gets that far. I've always been a Yankees fan, but in 2004 was the start of my baseball life, bleeding pinstripes was and still is the name of the game (I think it's more normal than bleeding Jets green!) for me. Well, that year didn't work out as planned, and those bloody sox took it all away from us (get it?). After getting Randy Johnson and cutting Andy Pettitte, all we did was try to buy a World Series, and it didn't work. That day that Joe Torre was given the goodbye treatment was the worst for me. I didn't know if any manager alive (other than Lasorda and other HOF managers) could manage as well as Mr. Torre. I was heartbroken that day, and even more when they picked Girardi over Mattingly to become the newest manager.

But this year, after missing the playoffs for the 1st time since 1994, we were determined. Buying a World Series was very much needed, and picking up guys like Sabathia, Burnett, Teixeira, and of course mi hombre Nick Swisher helped a ton. Not to mention the beautiful new stadium built for us by Mr. Steinbrenner! We were ready to strike back, and we were gonna do it in style!

After the news of A-Rod getting hurt and having to miss the 1st 2 months of the year all pressure was on Mark Teixeira, who failed to deliver at all in the 1st 2 months. The team all together wasn't looking so great, but when A-Rod came back, we went on a crazy surge, leading to the playoffs, Teixeira, CC, Burnett (kinda), and Swisher had big years and the Yanks went into the playoffs with over 100 wins and the best record in the league!

And here I am today, practically holding up the World Series trophy in the air, having never once felt that feeling, that "on top of the world" feeling you get when something unreal happens. I'm thinking, what's next? Nothing is. Technically, next year is next. But for now, this is the high point, the climax for a baseball fan, and I feel great!

So, last night's game was pretty good, I had trouble watching it though. I've thought up some great excuses and I figured I'll share em with you now, 1) I had 2 projects for school I finished, one being a presentation in Social Studies today (which went out well) and I needed to sleep. 2) Because the stupid MLB idiots like playing these games as late as possible, the perfect way for a kid to see this moment. 3) When I went to bed it was 7-3 Yankees, more like Matsui 6 Phillies 3. 4) I wanted to watch the end so I set my 2nd alram (1st is for school) to 11:00 to watch the end, turns out I was knocked out that night and either didn't hear the alarm or it never went off at all. So, by the time I woke up in the night, it's 5:00 in the morning, and I was like "I wonder what the score is", and when I looked at the clock I was like "Darnit, it's already been over for hours".

Those are my excuses, I watched the 1st 6 innings though, and other than the Howard home run, Pettitte looked brilliant! And don't get me started about Matsui, he knew it may be his last game in pinstripes, and he made it a memorable one (my friend said they're gonna ship him back to Japan :), no offense yall). Well, I want to congratulate the 2009 New York Yankees team, they played one heck of a season, and Joe Girardi after all is a great manager. Congrats to the 4 super heros (Posada, Pettitte, Jeter & Rivera) for completing one hand of rings and to A-Rod, Teixeira, Sabathia & Matsui for getting their 1st moments in glory! Thanks so much Yanks, now I get to be there for the first time! Here's to number 28! Go Yanks!

I think it's safe to say that this new stadium is the stadium Godzilla built! See Ya!

Grandpa Roy Column

Hey guys, Drew back here, trying to push myself to getting back on track on this thing, why not put up another question! Well, today I have 3 QUESTIONS FOR YOU! How about that? Well, they are all World Series related, as the Yankees only need one more game to win it all! So, here goes!

Question #1:

The New York Yankees are now in their 40th World Series in their illustrious legacy. In the World Series, the Yanks have faced 12 out of the 16 National League teams, and they won 10 of those 12. What teams have they not faced, and what 2 teams did they lose to in their only World Series meeting?

Haven't Faced Yet
1: Houston Astros (Hackenbush/Captain Canuck)
2: Washington Nationals/Montreal Expos (Hackenbush/Captain Canuck)
3: Milwaukee Brewers (Hackenbush/Captain Canuck)
4: Colorado Rockies (Captain Canuck)

Lost to in Only Series so far
1: Florida Marlins (Captain Canuck)
2: Arizona Diamondbacks (Captain Canuck)

Question #2:

The Philadelphia Phillies have a (small) chance of winning back to back World Series. If they do so, they would become the 4th team in National League history to win 2 or more World Series in a row. Who were the other 3 and what years did they win it?

1: Cincinatti Reds in 1975/1976 (Hackenbush & Captain Canuck)
2: Chicago Cubs in 1907-1908 (Spastik Moose)
3:
New York Giants in 1921-1922 (Dan)

Question #3

Other than the Yankees, what other American League teams have went back to back? You have to be able to name the years as well, there are 5 sets of teams. Teams can be used more than once.
(Hint: 1 team won 3 in a row)

Set 1: Toronto Blue Jays, 1992-1993 (Captain Canuck)
Set 2: Oakland Athletics, 1972-1974 (Captain Canuck/Hackenbush)
Set 3: Boston Red Sox, 1915-1916 (Spastik Moose)
Set 4: Philadelphia Atheletics, 1929-1930 (Dan)
Set 5:
Philadelphia Athletics, 1910-1911 (Mark's Ephemera)

UPDATE*** You got em all! Post up possibly tonight, see ya!

OK guys, this is a pretty crazy set of questions, but hopefully you understand them and maybe know some answers. This is pretty easy compared to some past questions, but I still want you guys following the rules. Don't use online or book references, use your little minds full of baseball knowledge!!!! Good luck on the questions, on your 1st guess, please only answer once for any question you know (all 3 questions, 2 questions or 1 questions, whatever you know) See Ya!

I had to go to bed!

Hey guys, again, couldn't watch the World Series last night, because it just so happened that the game had an hour and a half long rain delay, I went to bed after A-Rod hit the reviewed home run! So, now it's Game 4, the Yanks played themselves a heck of a game last night, didn't stop fighting the whole way through, Pettitte pitched a pretty good game too. Swisher hit a bomb, feel good for him, because he's had a horrible postseason. Also, Matsui hit one out, and he's had a monster of a postseason (get it?)! So, just wanted to put that out there, pretty excited about the way things are going, next game is a MUST WIN for us, with CC on the mound for us and Joe Blanton for them. So, figuring that Cliff Lee pitches the next game (I'm scared of him) it could be a big turnaround for the Phillies. So, Go Yanks!

Game 1 Tonight... If it holds up....

Hey guys, Drew back here, haven't been posting consistently at all, 1st off, I have absolutely no ideas for posts right now. Second, I just recovered from swine flu. Third, there hasn't been all that much to talk about, except for the World Series. Tonight as you all know is Game 1 of the World Series, which starts at 8:00 eastern time.

This should be a real good game if the weather holds up, oh, who am I kidding, there's no game, it's drizzling over here :). Well, I'm not sure, it probably will get canceled though. Baseball is kinda wimpy in a way, canceling for just about every reason in the world. BUT, if we do have a game tonight, it should be a pitcher's dual until the end. Cliff Lee and C.C. Sabathia have shown their teams why they went out and picked them up, well, C.C. was forced to after that last fat check he got! But as I was saying, it should be a great game, and good luck to those Phils fans, I'm not gonna be some idiot fan that doesn't shut up about how much the Phillies suck, and then watch my team choke and lose, "who's laughin now!" I do like the Phillies, but I'm a Yankee fan, so that means that I have every right to root for em, but I have no right to be an idiot about it.

I hope that last paragraph made sense. I really haven't been feeling like I'm making much sense lately, I guess that could be a flu symptom?

Also, anybody got these from 2009 Allen & Ginter?

128, 175, 211, 283, 304, 328, 342, 343, 347, National Pride 75 (A-Rod), Brian Kong Sketches 2 & 15???????

Please let me know, I'm struggling here! See Ya!

Oh, and

VOTE ON THE POLLS TO YOUR RIGHT, YES BOTH OF EM!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, Drew back here, and I am proud to state that:

THE YANKEES ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES!!!

Oh man, it was 1-0 last night earlier, and I'm like, jeez, we better not collapse! But, our guys got us back on track, including Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira, who must've read the newspapers the day before! Jeter had a pretty good game, Swish got a hit, Cano did too, and A-Rod got on a little bit. But, indeed the star of the night was Andy Pettitte, who I thought did a phenomenal job on the mound last night. He knew there was a lot of pressure on him, to win it so CC didn't need to pitch another game after it. He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings, while giving up only 1 run. When Girardi decided to take him out and put Joba in, I shut off the TV and went to bed. But, with my sickness I got up at like 11:30 in the night and my dad let me watch the rest of the game. And of course, after Mo gave up his only earned postseason run of his magnificent career (please, no comments about spitballs), he shut down the 9th inning en route to a Yankees victory, or like the very obnoxious/annoying John Sterling would say:

THE YANKEES WIN!
THHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNKKKKKEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS WWWWWWWWIIIIINNNNNNN!

Yeah, I don't like it either.

Anyway, the Angels played one heck of a series, I did kinda feel bad for them in a way. I hate seeing teams (other than the Red Sox and Mets) in the dugout sad while the other team is going crazy. I know I'd hate to be that team. Vlad Guerrero is a beast, that golf hit he had was amazing, and there DEFINITELY will never be a Vlad Guerrero again. Torii Hunter deserves respect, Kendry Morales & Juan Rivera came from nowhere to lead my fantasy teams, while another consistent Angels outfielder Bobby Abreu helped too. I really like Bobby and I wish he was still a Yankee, but if he was, no Swisher :(

So, Yanks vs. Phillies on Wednesday, can't wait! I started following baseball in 2004, so I've never seen a GOOD World Series in my life. It should go far, maybe 7 games even! I have a LOT of respect for the Phillies, good luck to them, but of course I'm rooting for my Yankees to win their 27th World Series!

Also, to make matters better, the Sanchise won a game yesterday!!! 38-0 too! Aw, shut up Drew, it was against the Raiders! But still, Shonn Greene, our rookie running back owned the field yesterday, over 100 yards and 2 touchdowns! Big game for the rookie!

Bad news is that Leon Washington broke his right fibula, and will be out for a long while. It stinks, but at least Shonn gets an oppurtunity.

And lastly, the Giants lost! One more loss for them and they have the same record as us! Hey, I am a semi-Giants fan. I'll root for them, but there are some catches (OK, a lot) I have for rooting for em:

1) Giants fans don't shut up about how amazing they are at school. So, really it depends on the week, if they are annoying enough or not.
2) If the Jets lose, the Giants better lose or Monday will be a rough day
3) If the Jets win, it depends on if I feel mean enough to hate on them, standings wise, like if the Giants are let's say 4-1 or whatever, and the Jets are 4-2 after their game, the Giants again better lose

But, in playoffs I'll root for them. I like em, but kids at school think the Jets are a joke. I gotta say there are about 7 or 8 Jets fans in our whole school. It's not a big school, but that's pretty pathetic if you ask me!

See Ya!
