Vintage Cards From Pop Popps

Hey guys, Drew back here. Somehow, Pop Popps still is feeding me more and more cards to add to my collection, which is incredibly awesome! He recently gave me a stack for my last quarter of school, and getting through freshman year (I think everyone deserves a crown and a throne for that accomplishment). Check out what he had in store for me the last time I visited him!

In this one, there were a lot of nice cards, but my favorite of the bunch was certainly the 1971 Topps Al Kaline card. It looks like one of his nicer all around cards! I also scanned the Sal Bando 1971 card because whether you love them or hate them, the A's certainly had some unique uniforms back in the day. Also of note, Willie Horton had an amazing moustache, and the rest of the cards feature Hall of Famers on them. The checklist from the top left corner, featuring Bob Gibson, was from 1969 Topps.

Thanks so much Pop Popps as always! See Ya!

Vintage Cards From Pop Popps

Hey guys, Drew back here. It's been a while, but we have another edition of the "Vintage Cards from Pop Popps" series. As you all know, my Pop Popps has been a great helper to me in building up a well rounded vintage collection, and has gotten me cards from all sorts of former greats, including some Hall of Fame rookie cards! The last time I did post a stack of cards from him I wrote that it may have been the final stack I'd ever receive from him, yet I was surprised to receive one more stack just a few days ago. Take a look and see what was in it:

There wasn't one card that could lead the pack, but a few solid Hall of Famers can certainly make me a happy camper! With 1972 Topps cards of Steve Carlton and Catfish Hunter, along with "Boyhood Photos of the Stars" cards of Lou Piniella and Brooks Robinson, this group of cards was fun to flip through. The best card in my opinion was the 1975 Topps Victory Leaders featuring Hunter, Ferguson Jenkins, Andy Messersmith, and Phil Niekro. If Messersmith is the worst pitcher on the card then it sure can be worse! Most of the cards ranged from 1971 to 1975, as they do in most other stacks he's given me, which is really cool. I'm sure if I counted up the amount of 1973 and 1975 Topps cards I have I could attempt to build those sets.

Thanks so much Pop Popps! See Ya!

Vintage Cards From Pop Popps

Hey guys, Drew back here. Rumor has it that this may possibly be one of the final, if not the final installment of Vintage Cards from Pop Popps. As most of you guys know, my dad's dad, known as Pop Popps to us, has quite the collection of unique pieces, and recently bought a few lots of vintage (not 80's for you Craigslist Idiots out there) cards for me and gave me a little at a time. From what my dad told me, this could be the final group of cards. Let's take a look at what he included this time:

This lot did not have a lot of the big name Hall of Famers and was relatively smaller than the regular stack, but a few Tom Seavers and above average 70's players and I'm most definitely happy! I recently watched the Top 9 players in the 70's, 1 per position, and Toby Harrah won for SS. I never knew much about him but he seemed to be a pretty good player. And Luis Tiant is signing at a show I'm going to soon, so I might meet him which will be cool.

So, if this is it, thank you so much Pop Popps! Over the last 2 or 3 years he's given me many enormously valuable, popular, and great cards from that era as well as a few before that era. The one card that stood out most above all other cards he gave me was the 1956 Topps Yankees team card, which is a really cool card, featuring one of the greatest teams of all time. A few iconic rookie cards were mixed within the lots, among the likes of Goose Gossage, Dennis Eckersley, Joe Morgan, Bruce Sutter, Gary Carter, and many, many more. This collection is in great hands!

See Ya!

Vintage Cards From Pop Popps- Nice RC!

Hey guys, Drew back here. For Christmas, Pop Popps gave me a nice lot of cards, and there were some sweet cards in there. Take a look:

First off, we have a bunch of Hall of Famers, and a Maury Wills "In Action" card. I've gotten quite a few of these from him before, but you can never have enough vintage HOF'er cards.

And, we also have a 1975 Topps Batting Leaders card featuring HOF'er Rod Carew, an Indians team card with Frank Robinson as manager, and a 1975 Topps card showing the MVPs of 1968, which happened to be 2 pitchers, Denny McClain and Bob Gibson. We also have a few more vintage cards including a 1963 Fleer Jimmy Piersall and a Blyleven and Piniella. Sometimes Pop Popps tends to have mixed early-mid 60's cards in the lots, and I got 3 1963 Fleers this time. Finally, 2 sweet Hall of Fame Rookies, of Goose Gossage and Gary Carter! I already have a few of the Gossage rookies, but I did not have the Carter rookie yet, which will certainly stay in the mini Hall of Fame Rookie Card Collection.

Thanks so much Pop Popps! See Ya!

Vintage Cards from Pop Popps

Hey guys, Drew back here. I've been around for a while, just haven't had a lot to write about, except a week or so ago my Pop Popps gave me more cards for my vintage collection! A few Yankees in Murcer and Lyle as well as Yankees not pictured in their uniforms, ie: Piniella, Reggie, and a few other nice cards like the Frank Robinson and Billy Williams/Rod Carew dual.

Thanks so much Pop Popps, this collection is really getting nicer and nicer by the day!

See Ya!

MUST READ- UNBELIEVABLE GIFT!!!

Hey guys, Drew back here. I'm not permanently back, but I will be soon. I got a TTM, bought something on eBay, went to the shop today, got some mail, but before I post all that, this is by far the greatest "Vintage Cards From Pop Popps" (not cards though) gift of all time, and he will never be able to beat this. There has been nothing I've ever dreamed of that I'd want more than something like this. Take a look!

So Pop Popps stopped by today, and I didn't know that he had these 2 frames waiting for me. He got them from a dealer, for less than $500, which does seem very suspicious to me, but they do look real. Shown on this first frame is an original picture of the old Yankee Stadium, an original picture of Gehrig, Ruth, and Foxx, some sort of old cigarrette card of a former Yankees manager (don't think it's real), tickets to World Series games, including the legendary "Called Shot" ticket, and an autographed picture of the Babe and Lou Gehrig! OMG!!!!!!! This was completely unexpected! Take a look at some closer up shots.

The top part of the Autograph for both Ruth and Gehrig is a copy, but to make the item "more original" from what a story says on the back of the frame, they signed each below the copy. Now is this real, because it was one heck of a steal if so. What do you think?

It's definitely someone's signature!

I am speechless right now. Completely speechless. I don't wanna get my hopes up though, because I'm going to get it authenticated at a future White Plains show, because I have no idea how my Pop Popps was able to get this for that kind of price. I don't wanna say they're fake, but I don't wanna say they're real either. I hope for the best though.

On to Frame #2, where we have another Yankee Stadium original photo, more World Series tickets, and a ticket to Lou Gehrig Day! Wow. Then we have what looks like a reprint of the 1909 T-206 Honus Wagner, because it's much bigger than the one I saw in person. That picture on top is indeed the 1927 Yankees, an unbelievable photo. Then the big four. There's a Honus Wagner autograph on the bottom row, 2nd to the end, which may or may not be real. It says "Compliment of J. Hans Wagner"!!! Then in the top right corner, another autographed Babe Ruth photo of him with a group of kids! Lastly, 2 signed cards of the Babe and Lou Gehrig! Again, don't think the cards are authentic, but the autographs sure look like it! I can't believe how amazing this is!

No the cards are not cut, they have a little border around them, as well as all the other items. These look the most authentic out of them all by far, these signatures are really nice!

Come to think of it, this could be the actual 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth card! If the autograph is real, the card is real. There is no way there were reprints back in those times, so this is incredible to own!

So if this is real I own Lou Gehrig's autograph AND rookie card! Unbelievable!

Lastly, a close up of another Babe Ruth autograph! He signed in what looks like purple, so that's neat. It looks real again, but even I know how to sign like Babe Ruth!

This hobby is really a pain. I sure love it, but some people are in this just to ruin other collector's collections. This could be anyone's autograph! I wish I didn't have to even suspect that but I have no choice but to, it's not authenticated so it's not authentic. I sure hope they're real!

Here's proof that these pictures aren't from eBay. That's me with one of the frames! I'm so happy to have these pieces, and I can't believe I own them! From the beginning of my blogging days I had no idea how good my collection would turn out, and authentic or not, these are incredible pieces in my collection!

What do you think? Do the autos and tickets look real? The price is hard to believe, which is leading me on to thinking that there's no possible way that this is all real! But hey, you never know! Thanks so so so so so so much Pop Popps, this is absolutely incredible! See Ya!

Vintage Cards From Pop Popps- HOF Rookie!

Hey guys, Drew back here, starting off the round of gifts with some cards from my Pop Popps. Here are the highlights:

As well as some 1975 Topps commons, we have a 1964 Zoilos Versailles, which is cool as an old school card, a 1967 Topps Twins Rookies card, a Don Sutton, Frank Robinson, Oscar Gamble, Al Oliver and some more good ones. Also a 1975 Rangers team card with Billy Martin, and a 73 Topps with Johnny Bench and Dick Allen. A pretty good group to start. But wait... theres more

The 1975 Topps Robin Yount rookie card! This is now the 10th Hall of Fame rookie card in my collection, which joins: Goose Gossage, Dave Winfield, Andre Dawson, Tony Gwynn, Kirby Puckett, Bruce Sutter, Dennis Eckersley, Rickey Henderson, Joe Morgan and someone else I can't remember. A pretty good group, and this is one of the more expensive cards in that group, it books for $50. It's a little off centered, but still an awesome find.

See Ya!

Vintage Cards from Pop Popps

Hey guys, Drew back here. I got some new (old) cards from my Pop Popps, so I wanted to share the highlights with ya.

2 cool looking Reds from 1975 Topps, Pete Rose, and Joe Morgan. Also a nice Garvey All Star, Dusty Baker, Gorman Thomas, Lou Piniella, and Buddy Bell. And a nice way to end it with a Juan Marichal traded card, unfortunately he's photoshopped into a Sox uniform.

Thanks Pop Popps, and See Ya!

Vintage Cards from Pop Popps

Hey all, Drew back here. Today I finished my social studies testing, next is Math Regents on Friday, and then a Spanish test on Monday... then field day... then graduation.... then a concert... then summer! So, I've been working hard in school to finish on a good note before I begin high school next year. My Pop Popps recognized my efforts and decided to reward me with some new cards, and here are the highlights-

It was hard to find 8 cards that I liked the most here, a lot of cool stuff, including Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, and Roberto Clemente, 3 of the best players in history. Next, 2 soon to be Yankees in Catfish Hunter and Reggie Jackson, and Yankees Rookies nobodies, Lindy McDaniel, and the team card! Pretty sweet!

Somebody got hungry!

Thanks Pop Popps! See Ya!

Vintage Cards from Pop Popps

Hey guys, Drew back here. My Pop Popps just recently gave me some more cards, and there were a lot of nice ones, but I liked these the best:

A Yankee to start, one that I haven't heard of before, but still cool. Going to the bottom row, a nice Dusty Baker, Dave LaRoche, and Ken Singleton, some good players. But the best two were definitely the Tom Seaver 1971 Topps and Ted Williams 1971 Topps. It's hard to find a nice old Teddy Ballgame without dropping a lot of money. It's a really nice card, and definitely my favorite of the bunch!

See Ya!

Vintage Cards From Pop Popps

Hey guys, Drew back here, with some cards from my grandpa, and this time may be one of THE BEST so far. Let's see what you have here:

Theres a guy also in NY that would like half of the above cards more, haha. The Seaver is the card they use for the Cards Your Mom Threw Out, so that's cool, I have a few of the real cards. Nice Schmidt and Bretts too.

VERY nice stuff here. A very vintage Steve Carlton, a nice Yaz (if you can call it that), a cool Ty Cobb, and a few others. Oh yeah, a 1972 Roberto Clemente. SWEET! This is his last major Topps release, and although this specific card is in horrible condition, it's a favorite of mine. I also like the Madlock League Leaders and the Torre when he was young.

Nothing like a 1972 Thurman Munson! He's already given me one of these before, but another doesn't hurt! Munson is my dad's all time favorite baseball player, and Joe Klecko in football, because he always liked the tough guys. Munson would've been a Hall of Famer if not for his accident. Tragic.

And we are getting better and better! A Bruce Sutter rookie card! I think I have a few vintage Hall of Fame rookies now, Tony Gwynn, Bruce Sutter, Goose Gossage, Joe Morgan, and maybe a few more. Sutter is one of the best closers in history and it's cool to get something of a guy I don't have much of.

Night Owl, I know you always say that you don't mind a little wear on your cards from a while back. Well, I don't think you've ever seen a card this effin hilarious in your life. First off, there is a giant ripped spot on the right side of the card. Second, can you see the tape over Dick Bosman? Well, that tape is ages old and the name lifts up! There is also tape at the top! And other than a few dings and stuff, the kid or whoever used to own this card drew a beard right over Dick's beautiful face that 1972 Topps photographers wanted to show off. Beardy, you are probably jealous of me right now.

Thank you Pop Popps not only for some great cards but for a good laugh! By the way, I got these because I got inducted into this after receiving a letter last week:

http://sp.rpcs.org/rpcsweb/home/upperschool/clubs/Club%20Images/National%20Junior%20Art%20Honor%20Society.gif

Yep, the National Junior Honor Society. I have NO clue what we do, but I'm really happy I made it in! On a side note, I'm going to NYC tomorrow so I won't be posting most likely unless I get back early. So, I'll talk to you all Saturday! See Ya!

Vintage Cards from Pop Popps

Hey guys, Drew back here. Yes, you probably can find another one of these on the same page as this one right now, and this batch from Pop Popps is for my report card. There were as usual a bunch of oldies but goodies, and these were the best:

1975 Topps George Foster, 1971 Topps Al Downing, 1973 Topps Carl Yastrzemski, 1973 Topps Don Zimmer Manager, 1975 Topps Tony Oliva, 1973 Topps Tommy John, 1973 Topps Ron Santo, 1973 Topps Whitey Lockman Manager w/Ernie Banks as coach
Wow, that's a lot of cool cards. I think the Yas was the best card of the bunch this time, which can't really compare to the Joe Morgan rookie card last time, but there were some nice ones here. Tommy John should be in the Hall of Fame, and many people make a case for Oliva too. I love that Don Zimmer card though, he looks so funny!

1969 Topps Tom Tresh
Nothing better than a vintage Yankee to finish it off. Tresh wasn't anything big but I think he was ok. This is my 4th oldest Yankees card I own, and hopefully will sink on that list if I improve the collection enough. The card isn't in mint shape but it's very nice looking and I like it a lot.

Thanks Pop Popps!

Vintage Cards from Pop Popps

Hey guys, Drew back here. It was a long day, I couldn't log on until now because we went to the mall. I got 12 packs of 2010 Topps, a blaster and 2 hobby, and 1 pack of 206. I'll have those up tonight or tomorrow, probably tomorrow. Pop Popps gave me some cards after I went to Al Hammell pre-season baseball camp, and they were sweet! Here are the highlights, it was a regular size stack but I just scanned the best ones:

4 Hall of Famers (and Steve Garvey)
I already had the Schoendienst but he's a Hall of Famer so I don't mind. I really like the Billy Williams card for some reason, I don't have much of him. Definitely some cool ones in this bunch.

1974 Topps Reggie Jackson/Willie Stargell League Leaders
Boy this is a sweet card! 2 examples of 70's players with awesome facial hair! And 2 excellent players! I never hear anything about Stargell, well, that may be because he passed away.

2 1965 Topps Bob Veale/Bob Gibson/Don Drysdale League Leaders
Awesome, my 1st Drysdale vintage card, actually, probably my 1st Drysdale anything! I have a Gibby auto and 2 game used from boxes, and I really like him, because he was so dominant. So overpowerful, which may result in being on a strikeout leader card. Adding Veale is practically a bonus. Lovin this card(s).

1965 Topps Joe Morgan/Sonny Jackson Rookie Card!
Now we're talking! One of the best cards he's given me, books for 60 but you could get it much cheaper. It's not in great shape but it's awesome to own a Hall of Fame rookie card, even if he is a pretty bad announcer. This is not for trade!

Thanks Pop Popps, and See Ya!

Vintage Cards from Pop Popps

Hey guys, Drew back here. It's been a long week so far, and considering I need to do 9 hours of community service this weekend (no, I'm not in trouble!), I won't be around much. It kinda sucks because I need to post 3 box breaks, some mail, more Christmas stuff, and all my other random posts (like yesterdays). I'm going to the White Plains show the following Saturday, saved up a good amount of money to meet Don Mattingly and spend some cash on packs/singles. I can't wait for that, but for now, it's school and community service. Yay! Well, continuing my Christmas loot, I got some vintage cards from Pop Popps, and boy there were some sweet ones. I didn't scan them all, at least I don't think I did, but if I didn't then I also got quite a few 1975 Topps. Come to think of it, I think I did scan them all, wow! I don't think my head is on straight, while I try fixing it back you watch this little video full of awesome vintage cards. Thanks Pop Popps!

Mailday & Vintage Cards from Pop Popps Pt. 8

Hey guys, Drew back here, with some new additions to my collections and such. Sorry about the lac of posts, I've been busy & lazy, not a good mix as a blogger. Anyway, I am now expecting 2 more packages, after getting the 2nd of 4 trades I recently made. This one is from "pooncha" on the blowout card forum, who is a pretty experienced trader on the site. We made a 1 for 1 card deal, I traded my Jesse Crain Beam Team auto for this:

Sorry for the terrible picture, it looks similar to the one under it.

My best friend Mike slept over last night too and we made a jersey card trade, (he needs them so I hook him up with them in 2 for 1's, just to boost his collection) my 2008 Allen & Ginter Brad Hawpe jersey and a random Jeremy Burnitz Bat card for a 2008 UD Baseball Heroes relic of Rich Harden /200 and a few parallels. I know its not a fair trade but he needs those to boost up his collection.

Lastly, I got some cards from my Pop Popps about a half an hour ago, many vintage base, 62 to be exact, all from the 1970-1975 era, mostly 71 Topps and 73 Topps. Here are the Hall of Famers and other nice highlights:

So, please bare with me as I slowly work my way back to normal blogging. Thanks, and see ya!
