TTM #95- Trade Deadline Headliner

Hey guys, Drew back here! About a week or so ago, I received two TTM's back in my mailbox. However, since the players don't really have a whole lot in common, I decided to break it up into two short parts. Leading off, a pitcher who had one of the best first halves in all of baseball! Check it out:

Cubs Rangers pitcher Ryan Dempster signed one 2011 Topps 206 card for me, in a relatively quick 23 days! Everyone says good things about Dempster as a person on and off the field, and I can see why, as he's always been a fantastic signer and a pretty good pitcher as well! While his Rangers stint hasn't really been smooth sailing, on the season, he's 10-6 with a nice 2.87 ERA. I didn't want the Yankees to go after him at the deadline, but that doesn't mean I didn't like him. He didn't appear to be a great for New York, especially considering how long he's pitched for the Cubs. I didn't expect all that much at all with him moving to the American League, but he's proven me wrong as some of his Rangers starts have been well above average.

2010 Abe Cards?

Hey guys, Drew back here. I don't know if all of you have heard about this, but recently some collectors have discovered hidden Abraham Lincoln cards in 2010 Topps Series 1. These rare cards have barely been discovered so far, and are selling for high prices. About 4 have been found of Milton Bradley, and 3 other players have either 1 or 2 finds so far, and I'll have to check my cards from 2010 Topps soon to see if I have one. I just wanted to let you guys know a little info on these, thanks to Blowout Forum for additional info.

Along with the legend shortprints and Yankees "Pie in the Face" cards, Topps decided to also pick on Chicago, Illinois, and make some Abe Lincoln rarities. Check your White Sox as well, ya never know. 4 different variations have been found so far, and I have a good feeling there are plenty more out there. The first one of Milton Bradley, above, was the first discovery and the start of it all. Instead of the regular card that says "Baseball Notes" on the scoreboard, there is a picture of President Lincoln's face and it says Abe next to it, replacing the "Notes" part. Here is one of these, and here is another, they carry a very high price tag, even higher than the Pie in the Face cards, until everyone notices they have one and they're in the 25 cent bin.

The next "Abe" variant is with the Tyler Colvin rookie card, and here it is:

Obviously the seller didn't put a great picture up and it could be photoshopped but I'll trust "Chrissy 73" for now. Looks like Abe is the manager on this one, as you can see in the dugout. Chrissy's Colvin variant is now at $79.99 with a $220.00 BIN.

The 3rd of the 4 discovered cards is of Ryan Dempster. In an old MLB video from the mid 2000's, a blooper one, don't know if you remember seeing this but Dempster took all of Will Ohman's tires off his truck and hid them around the stadium. It was funny. And Dempster does a good Harry Caray impersonation. Looks like Topps pulled a prank on Dempster on this card:

Now Abe is the umpire, woo hoo! I would so want him calling my games, haha. Uglyplay_gaming is selling this card with a BIN of $250.00 right now.

The last card in this series is of Jeff Samardzija. Not much to say about him, so here's the card, discovered and being sold by uglyplay_gaming again. If the seller has two then they can't be too rare unless he/she opened multiple cases of 2010 Topps.

The seller included a close up of Abe, found under Jeff's arm in the crowd. This card is also $250.00 BIN. So Lincoln is a star on the scoreboard, an umpire, a manager, and a fan so far. I wonder what else there is...

So, now 4 of these were found, and only 1 is on eBay for each of the last 3, although I guarantee more exist. This will obviously bump up the price for 2010 Topps, and now the chase cards are Legend SP's, Pie in the Face cards, Million Card Giveaways, Jumbo patches, and now Abe variations. Seems like a good product to me.

To be honest though, I would definitely sell an Abe right now if I have one, because I think the idea is pointless, and now is the time to sell them at a high price most definitely. They're kinda neat, but I would never lay down that price for a card like that. Rather get a Jeter auto and a Ruth relic, notice the AND in that sentence.

Alright, got video game night at my friend's church tonight, and no, it has nothing to do with church, it's just an event held by his church. Got a bunch of friends going and I'm staying over one of their houses after the gaming night is over. So, I'll be back tomorrow either with cards from dad or my Nick Swisher PC.
