Pointless Pieces of Cardboard Part 4- The UD Ballpark Edition

Hey guys, Drew back here. I've been so caught up with school work lately that it's been hard to find time to find time for cards. When I do at this point, I make a ton of custom cards. I've so many of late, because I don't find any of this years Topps offerings exciting enough to buy a lot of. I haven't done one of these posts in a while, so I was looking around on Check Out My Cards and I found a few worth showing.

2009 Upper Deck Ballpark has a nice clean design. It's pretty expensive, but 7 times out of 10 you'll get something worth talking about. Unfortunately, it suffers from "Whattheheckaretheseplayersalldoingonthesamecarditis". Here are a few examples:

First of all, since when is Hank Blalock a star? Since when is he able to be on the same card as Prince Fielder?

Oh, I know this one, 2 old guys that shouldn't have been playing at that age. Two future Hall of Famers if you think Delgado is worthy. These AL and NL stars sure have a lot in common to be sharing the same card!

Yeah, I'm just as clueless as you are.

For the sake of shortening the post, I'll move to the quads. Please know that I can find 15-20 other dual jersey cards that have no meaning to exist. I mean, if they are on the same card or are stars at the same position, or have comparable statistics, go ahead! But a pitcher from the AL and a hitter from the NL? Huh?

Ok, so we have a Pirates pitcher displayed in the wrong uniform, an Indians pitcher, a Braves second baseman, and a Yankees middle reliever! What the heck is up with this set? What is Upper Deck smoking?

Oh this one makes lots of sense. A Rays starting pitcher, Red Sox closer, Diamondbacks outfielder, and an Astros outfielder! How can you be excited about these cards?

Angels outfielder, Mariners pitcher in the wrong uniform, Athletics outfielder, and an Orioles pitcher. Just because you are Upper Deck and you have sucked collectors into collecting every product of yours does not mean you can put these awful groups of players on the same cards!

Again for the sake of space, we'll see Exhibit C, the 6 swatch cards.

Way to poorly execute a good idea. This is one card. 3 swatches on one side, 3 swatches on the other side. We have Mike Lowell and Josh Beckett displayed in Marlins uniforms for some odd reason, Jason Bay in a Red Sox uniform, Rich Hill (again), Aubrey Huff, and Luke Scott. I've given up on further comments, this is sad.

I'm sure your eyes are all burning up enough, so I'll stop there. I can't see how the demand of these cards can possibly be high! Sure, there are some gorgeous cards, like the quad jersey of Yogi Berra, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, and Robinson Cano that I own, one of my favorite cards in my collection. But, for all you that are wondering, THIS IS WHY THEY LOST THEIR LICENSE!!! Putting 6 random players on a card has no meaning, no value in my mind, and no fun.

I normally like to have a positive attitude about my hobby, but this is just something that's gone too far. I opened a tin of 2007 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic baseball for my birthday on July 24th, if you may remember. I pulled 2 base, 2 plain jerseys, and an expired redemption of a Harold Baines autograph. I emailed Upper Deck a few days later. They forgot about me, and I emailed them again in early October. They responded telling me to wait 8-12 MORE WEEKS! Their Customer Service is terrible, and their quality isn't much better. I sure miss the mass amount of products per year, but I don't miss things like this.

Feel free to chime in. See Ya!

Pointless Pieces of Cardboard Pt. 3

Hey guys, Drew back here, continuing on the never-ending saga that is Pointless Pieces of Cardboard. Today we have another card on Check Out My Cards.com that has a big price tag. This is nothing to do with the site again, this has to do with the seller. Here we go:

Card: 2009 Upper Deck Ryan Zimmerman Game Jersey not #ed
Price: $50.00
Why is this criticized?: Why is this $50.00??? Again, unless it's a short printed relic, or something, this shouldn't have a price tag like this!!! The seller has a few kinda high prices but all are at least under BV, except this, which BV is not provided for. Also, nothing against Zimmerman, he's good and I like him, just this is ridiculous. You could manage to get a Babe Ruth relic card for double this price, so, what would you prefer, one old jersey with the pinstripe running through it of possibly the greatest player EVER, or 2 of these? Or, you could get a bunch of these off eBay, example, or buy all of these and it will be remotely close to $50, not including shipping.

So, I don't know what some sellers problems are with not selling by "Book Value" at least, all I know is that NOBODY THAT KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS GOING TO BUY THIS CARD FOR $50. AND NOBODY OUTSIDE OF OUR BLOGOSPHERE HAS EVER HEARD OF COMC!!!!!!!!!

Pointless Pieces of Cardboard Pt. 2

Hey guys, Drew back here, I never knew the saga would continue with this stinkin card! This is now the 3rd time I've posted this card, and the seller won't stop. Maybe next time I get some store credit on Check Out My Cards I should make an offer of 2 bucks to this idiot. Check this out now, it's the same write up as last time but the price changed dramatically:

Card: Anthony Gonzalez 2009 Donruss Rookies & Stars Relic Card
Price: $10,000 (last time it was $500)
Why is this criticized?: How on earth is this card worth $10,000? Is this some sort of super de dooper short print or something? Anthony Gonzalez barely played last year, and this seller thinks he/she could sell it for $10,000? That's insane, here's a comparable card, and instead of buying that rip off you could buy something like this, this AND this, all for LESS than $10,000. Add this in too.

$10,000 dollars????
ARE YOU OUT OF OUR MIND????????

WAKE UP!!!
THAT'S A $4 CARD!!!!

Now this is getting annoying, see ya.

Pointless Pieces of Cardboard

Hey guys, Drew back here. Check Out my Cards is a great website, and you should all check it out (if you don't buy Canos, unless they're for me, hahaha). This is a great site to examine the idiots throughout our card-o-sphere who sell things for WAY too much money, and also to show some cards that never should've been made in the first place. This is hopefully going to take off as a new category on the blog and here is the 1st post. Here we go:

Card: Anthony Gonzalez 2009 Donruss Rookies & Stars Relic Card
Price: $500.00
Why is this criticized?: How on earth is this card worth $500? Is this some sort of super de dooper short print or something? Anthony Gonzalez barely played last year, and this seller thinks he/she could sell it for $500? That's insane, here's a comparable card, and instead of buying that rip off you could buy something like this, this AND this, all for LESS than $500.

Card: Cal Ripken Jr./John Riggins 2008 Donruss Sports Legends Dual Autograph /25
Price: $150.00
Why is this criticized?: This has nothing to do with the seller and price, this just is a pointless card. Why would Donruss put players that have nothing in common on the same card? This also has nothing against the players, but I saw this and I was like, that is an insanely stupid card right there. Some cards just make me wonder. Maybe they do have something in common, so if they do please let me know, but it has no signs on the back saying anything about why they are paired up on the same card. I could make a whole series of these cards with Ballpark Collection.

Card: 2008 Topps Campaign Al Gore Graded Gem Mint 10
Price: $999.99
Why is this criticized?: Let me start by saying, I HATE AL GORE. If you have no clue who he is, he's the guy that runs around telling people the sky is falling, not to be confused with Chicken Little. Anyway, back to the card. Why is this $1,000? I would never pay that kind of money for anything to do with this guy. If this is too steep a price for you, check out this auction. You can get a card of a person who IS HELPING OUR COUNTRY graded 9 for uh, a few bucks! But if you do drop that kind of money, be sure to buy this card here, only $175 more, instead of that disaster above you.

I hope I don't sound like a pessimist, but yeah, nothing against Check out My Cards as a website, only against some sellers, and some cards that have no purpose of being on this Earth, a waste of paper as Al Gore would say. See Ya!
