Severino Sunday: November 1st (PLUS Contest Results)

Hey everyone, Drew back here. I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Halloween! Mine was relaxing, as I got to sit back and watch game 4 of the World Series after powering my way through a never ending week. I've been rooting for the Mets because I honestly don't have any emotional attachment to the Royals at all, and because I'm a big fan of David Wright's. It doesn't look ideal for the Mets, but crazier things have happened.

I have been able to add 13 new Luis Severino cards to my collection since my first edition of Severino Sunday, and the quality hasn't decreased as far as I can tell.

- 2014 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects Blue Paper Parallel 279/399
- 2014 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects Green Paper Parallel 6/75

- 2014 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects Red Ice Parallel 49/150
- 2014 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects Purple Ice Parallel 58/99

- 2014 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects Black Wave Refractor
- 2014 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects Black Refractor 60/75

- 2014 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects Blue Refractor 217/399

- 2015 Bowman Prospects Silver Paper Parallel 54/499
- 2015 Bowman Prospects Purple Paper Parallel 226/250

- 2015 Bowman Prospects Blue Paper Parallel 106/150

- 2015 Bowman Chrome Prospect Profiles
- 2015 Bowman Chrome Prospect Profiles Green Parallel 66/99

- 2015 Bowman Autograph

Many of these additions came together via Check Out My Collectibles, but the autograph, ice parallels, and black refractor arrived through separate eBay purchases. I now have his regular and refractor Bowman rookie autographs, and hopefully won't be my last Bowman autograph parallel of his. I completed the mini 2015 Bowman Chrome Prospect Profiles rainbow with the regular and green parallels (the gold and orange cards were featured in the last post). It's quite difficult working on four separate set rainbows at once of a highly touted prospect, but its refreshing to get the newest set out of the way before the cards become more rare and expensive.

Before I let you all go and enjoy the rest of your football and World Series Sundays, I would like to announce the winner of my Victory Fine Art contest I ran this week. I was a little disappointed by the total number of entries, but those who did get involved were fantastic and it really seems like I'm not the only one to see the potential of this company.

I placed all of your names on random.org and after five randomizations, the winner of any Victory Fine Art print of their choice is...

Congrats Rich B.! I'm going to send Victory Fine Art an email announcing that you have won, and if at possible, please send them an email also (marie@americanpopdigital.com) with your mailing address and the Ali print you are interested in winning so they can ship it out to you!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the contest, and I just hope this helped bring more awareness to a great up and coming company. Once again, if you haven't seen their work yet, click here.

See Ya!

Victory Fine Art Giveaway!

Hey everyone, Drew back here! Recently, I had the pleasure of becoming partners with the good folks at Victory Fine Art - an up and coming licensed provider of fantastic sports artwork.

Victory has emerged over the past year after quite the selection process to determine which artists would produce their works. After examining over 300 different artists, four award winning people were selected to represent the company. Their website currently features a Baseball, Football, Basketball, Hockey, and Indy 500 page; as well as an exclusive Muhammad Ali gallery.

I took an extensive look through their website after initially being contacted by the company to see if we could form a partnership. I was captivated from the second I clicked their website link. Also, I was particularly impressed by their price points. While their original canvas' for each subject cost several thousand dollars, you can own a large 19" by 35" print for just $35.00. A majority of their pieces are meant to gather an emotional message about the player represented; far more than any routine photo commonly used throughout the industry.

Long story short, I was sent a few of their prints this past week to be able to show off for all of you. I chose my two personal favorites of theirs, and I could not be more happy with the results. The first print I chose was the gorgeous Derek Jeter "Farewell" work created by Armando Villarreal. It really captures the essence of Jeter and just how much he is adored by the Yankees fanbase. I can't wait to find a frame for this and display it somewhere in my mancave.

I also chose this gorgeous sepia toned piece also constructed by Villarreal, entitled "Thoughtful", of boxing legend Muhammad Ali. Ali has always been one of my all time favorite sports figures, and I browsed their Ali art collection page to add something of his to my collection. I loved most of them, but ultimately sided with this emotional work. I think I made a good choice!

Both arrived in the mail in excellent condition, and I could not be more impressed with their customer service and overall quality.

So here's where the fun begins. Victory has told me I can give away any one of their prints to a lucky reader, and I'm going to do just that.

To enter for a chance to win your favorite piece from the Victory Art website, here is what you will need to do:

- Leave a comment below stating which print you would like to receive if you are chosen as the winner! The comment itself will give you one entry into the random name generator.

- Post a Tweet using the @VictoryFineArt hashtag, a link to this blog post, and my twitter (@drewmihans) for an extra entry.
- Post a Photo on Instagram and tag @VictoryFineArt, leave the link to my blog post, and tag my account (@drewscards) as well in the caption section to earn an additional entry.
- Post on your blog a link to the Victory Fine Art website (https://www.victoryfineart.com/) as well as the link to this contest for two more entries.

The contest will close on Halloween (October 31st at 5:00 PM EST)!

In total, you can earn up to 5 chances to win any piece of artwork to proudly display in your man cave! Trust me, these people are worth your time and effort! Here are a few other examples of what you could win:

Clayton Kershaw

Aaron Rodgers
LeBron James

Good luck to everyone, and let's give these up and comers some hobby love!

Chapter One

Hey everyone! This post is in regards to my new friend Frankie's recent contest announcement. Be sure to check out the post and join in yourselves, especially if you want in on some sweet prizes!

I've already posted a separate "About Me" page, and if you haven't had the opportunity to check that out and are interested in the full story behind what got me started in the hobby, take a look. This is an excerpt from that page:

Hey everyone, I'm Drew, and welcome to my blog, drewscards! Excuse my mediocre blog title, but I was only 12 years old when this site was first up and running and I've been doing my best to keep some of my traditions up ever since (this is why I begin every post saying "Drew back here", and end each post with "See Ya!"). I've been collecting ever since I was 8 years old, and in the summer of 7th grade going into 8th I discovered the world of YouTube and blogging by simply typing "baseball cards" into a Google search. I never thought that one basic search would bring across all of the possibilities and experiences it has, and I'm thankful I did that in retrospect.
I was born and brought up as a New York sports fan following in my Dad's footsteps. My dad played football in high school, and it has been his second passion ever since (hunting is his favorite). He's been a New York Jets fan his entire life, and he passed that plague down to me. I remember laying in bed crying when I was younger; miserable because the Jets choked up the lead in a key playoff game and were eliminated. My parents told me over and over that I could switch teams if I wanted to, but I've never had the heart to do so. Part of this was because I at least had a legendary baseball team to follow (so thankful my Dad wasn't a Jet/Met fan). I started watching baseball towards the end of the 2004 playoffs, and somehow stuck with the Yankees even through losing to Boston in Game 7 of the ALCS. In 2005 I went baseball crazy; reading every article I could and begging my parents to take me to Yankee Stadium. I used to cut out each player's profile picture and make little cards with their statistics on them and drafted different teams to emulate in my front yard. I can only imagine my neighbors watching me run around and announce the games to myself and thinking I needed to be put in some kind of institution. Nevertheless, a baseball fan was born in me.
In elementary school, I made everyone a baseball and football card collector. One of my friends didn't even like sports and still brought in cards to trade every lunch. Every year one of them would fade off and leave the hobby, and eventually I was almost alone in my own world. I still have a few friends from school that would appreciate some Yankees cards, but that was really it. I Google searched "baseball cards" in July of 2008, and wound up starting a YouTube account where I would open packs of cards for all the world to see. My parents found out about it and saw I was trying to negotiate trades online with strangers and told me I needed to delete the account. I was heartbroken, but didn't give up. Shortly after, I opened up a blog on Weebly, and made my first post that October. I didn't have much of a following until I brought all of my material over to Blogger in December. Blogger was a blessing for me, because the feeling of "writing to a blank wall" began to dissipate as my viewership grew ever so slightly. My writing was far from excellent back during those times, but I gave my best effort to write like my then favorite bloggers: Mario Alejandro of Wax Heaven, Dave of Fielder's Choice Blog, and Beardy of Beardy's Blog, and later the Mojo Beard.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________

I have been involved with cards and collectibles ever since I was 3 or 4, when my Dad gave me a bunch of early 1990's Pacific football cards. I was infatuated with the colors of the uniforms and would often sort them out by team, only to put them back in the stack to be sorted again the next day. As I grew a few years older, I would use just about every Toys R Us gift card I was given towards the random 10 pack boxes with a mystery in the middle. I remember being so pumped up to pull a Yankee autograph. I don't even recall who the player was, but I believe it's somewhere in my basement, most likely collecting dust. There would occasionally be small card shows close by, and I used to beg my parents to take me. In the 3 shows I went to, I got to meet Roy White and Brian Bruney, and I felt like I was in baseball heaven. And as aforementioned, in 2008, I Google searched "baseball cards" after almost throwing in the towel on collecting, and I came up with about a million more reasons not to stop.

And here we are now. I can't believe how far something as small yet powerful as the Internet took me. I was brought to some of the best friends I've ever had, which I will forever be grateful for. It also helped broaden my horizons, which I desperately needed. When I was younger, I listened to the Beatles religiously (certainly not a bad band to follow, if I say so myself). I used to print out pictures of the band members and make picture books, which could explain my past interest in making custom cards. Through the Internet and technology, I have extended my iTunes playlists to everything from Pink Floyd to Coldplay to Kanye West. It takes more now for me not to like something than it is to enjoy something. I also semi recently fell into the trap that is Netflix and TV shows. I never thought I'd get to that point, but how could one say that when shows like The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and Game of Thrones are out there waiting for your pleasure and enjoyment?

My point is, I always will be thankful for growing up in this age of technology. I know many adults scowl at how different our lives are from what they experienced, but that's life. I needed technology to become the person I am today. And I'm proud of that.

Thank you to each and every one of you who have supported me throughout the years; friends, family, and even if you just click this link and read what I have to say once in a while. It is all appreciated. I'm looking forward to continuing to share my passion with you, and even after writing on this space for 6 years, I can say that I'm truly just getting started.

Again, if you have not seen Frankie's contest post yet, I encourage you to join in. I don't know many collectors with the passion that this kid has, and he deserves all the attention his incredible, growing collection should throw his way.

Calling All Team Collectors: FREE STUFF!

Hey guys, Drew back here! I spent most of yesterday setting up stacks of duplicate cards for every single team, and I wanted to do something nice for all of you. Not only would I clear some space in my mancave, but I'd also be able to find better homes for some cards I don't have any use for.

If you are interested in taking a stack of cards of your favorite team for FREE, please be sure to be following my blog and leave a comment in the post below. Then, email me (yanks1996wsc@gmail.com) with your address if I don't have it already, and I'll have the cards out to you as soon as I can.

I've already reserved a few stacks for some of my close friends in the hobby, but I've indicated below which teams are and are not available. There are some fairly nice cards in each stack, and hopefully each group has a few cards you can appreciate. Some piles contain more cards than others, so please don't feel like any ridiculous biases are involved. The cards are mostly from the 2000's, but can date as back as the early 1980's for some teams! I'm not looking for any reciprocation with this, so please don't worry about paying me back for any of this!

Contest Over at "The Dutch Card Guy"!

Hey guys, Drew back here! The title speaks for itself, but I'll once again state here that one of today's best in our blogosphere is currently running a pretty great contest! From printing plates to relics and autographs galore, and even a beautiful Clayton Kershaw autographed rookie card; please go over to the Dutch Card Guy's blog and give yourself a chance to win if you haven't already!

While I'm here, I want to congratulate Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, and especially "The Big Hurt", Frank Thomas on their inductions into Cooperstown this year! I had the honor of meeting Thomas this past summer and after listening to him speak about his passion for the game and getting to shake his hand, I became a permanent fan of his. I'm really glad to see him get his moment in the glory!

TriStar OBAK Football Contest Winners!

Hey guys, Drew back here! Today is my birthday, however as I have promised for a few weeks, I'm going to give some of you a gift! For those that took the opportunity to enter my contest, I thank you so much. It was a heck of a lot of fun reading all of your stories you wrote about for your entries, and I really appreciate you all taking the time out to get in on the fun of celebrating this blog's 1000th post! We didn't get quite enough entries for me to consider giving the big prize away, but all of the other cards from the break will be leaving my home in a few days!

So, all of you who entered know how this went down with the 5 separate groups. Of course, if you didn't enter each one, you were only eligible for the groups you entered into. And, for those of you who shared the link and plugged up my blog, you received an additional entry into each group you entered. Basically, it gave you guys two shots at winning each group. Without any further ado, I'll now reveal to you guys the winners of each group of cards from the box break. Each name was entered in the appropriate amount of times, and was randomed on Random.org 10 times to give me a winner. Here goes!

GROUP A: The African American Innovator Collection
Winner: Connor

GROUP B: Pioneers of the Game
Winner: BA Benny

GROUP C: Award Winners
Winner: Greg Zakwin

GROUP D: Legends of the Hall
Winner: High-Five Man

GROUP E: American Heroes/Best of the Rest
Winner: Josh D.

If you won one of the groups please shoot me an email to yanks1996wsc@gmail.com so I can ship your packages (besides Connor), and if they go unclaimed within the next week I'll re-randomize the list and pick a new winner! Thanks once again to everyone who helped make fun things like these possible, and again, for everyone who entered! And also, thanks to Tristar one last time for sending me this box to review! Now to go celebrate my 16th B-Day, I'm off to the Izod Center to see Aerosmith in concert!

See Ya!

1000th POST CONTEST! Lots to Give Away!

Hey everyone, Drew back here for now the 1000th time in the history of this blog! Before I get to what I promised in the title, I just wanted to say a few quick things. First and foremost, I want to thank each and every one of you out there who has taken some of their time out from their day to give this website a look! I grew up always being a numbers guy, and seeing some of the numbers of page views and followers and comments and what not is just astounding to me. While in the past year this blog has been wildly inconsistent (similar to AJ Burnett), it doesn't mean I'm losing my passion for the sports memorabilia hobby, it's just been that I've had a lot going on. These teenage years always offer a lot of excitement and memories and I don't want to spend those moments behind the screen of a computer the entire time. However, when I get a chance, I absolutely love to throw a post up about how my collection is coming along, as well as reading all of your blogs! You all have built me a certain amount of confidence that I can't thank you enough for. I feel like I have fans when I get on here, even though some times in my real world life it may not seem that way as much. So, not only do I do this for me, but I do this most definitely for all of you as well.

And it's about time I paid some of you back for all you've helped me through over the years! A while back, I promised to give away the contents of the Tri-Star OBAK football box I opened, and well, other plans got in the way. However, today, and for the next two weeks, you will all get an opportunity to win a piece of the break! I know my blog following is shifted much more towards baseball than football fans, however, some of these prizes are just too nice to pass up! I divided the contents of the box into five respective categories, each of which are fairly simple to enter. There are 3 autographs scattered within the groups they belong in, but the groups not containing autographs do have nice parallels and minis as well. So, without any further delay, I'll jump right into each group, one at a time, and I'll tell you how to enter for a chance to win the cards in the group! Let's Go!

GROUP A: The African American Innovator Collection
Throughout the past hundred years, exciting new talent has come along when professional sports opened the floodgates and let African American people play. Some of these athletes will go down as some of the most talented and best all around players of all time! To win the group of cards below, highlighted by a box topper numbered 1 of 25 featuring on one side, Emlen Tunnell, the first African American in the HOF, and on the other side Charles Follis, the first African American Pro Football player; as well as a green base parallel of Tunnell numbered 3 of 25, please name in the comments below your favorite African American Athlete of all time (any sport).

GROUP B: Pioneers of the Game
For all of you history buffs out there, Tri-Star certainly hooked you up in this product! In it features so many cards of players/coaches/executives that don't often get much of a spotlight, although they may have had remarkable careers! In this lot of 23 cards plus a mini of the father of American football, you can not only take home some very nice cardboard but you can learn an awful lot about the game that you may not have known before. Since so many of these people were very smart, I would like to know, in order to win the lot below, what has been your smartest investment/purchase you have ever made (inside or outside of this hobby).

Group C: Award Winners
Alright, here's where things start to kick it up a notch! I'm not saying not to put in for the first two groups, because A) they're easy to join and B) I'd love to read your answers, and C) you could win! Anyways, in this lot of 22, you will find cards with recipients of awards such as the Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award, the Bear Bryant Award, and the Doak Walker award, all of which are prestigious college football awards! Bo Jackson is featured twice in this lot, as well as 2 great autographs of former Heisman Trophy winners Charlie Ward (numbered out of 50) and Andre Ware (numbered out of 75)! Both had great college careers and would be nice additions to any fans collection! In order to take home this solid lot, please leave me a comment sharing one of your favorite stories having to do with this hobby! It can be anything, just make sure it's longer than a sentence as this is one of the better lots in the contest!

Group D: Legends of the Hall
Simply put, this lot is filled, and I mean filled with Hall of Famers- whether in the Pro Football Hall of Fame or the College Football Hall of Fame! How about 46 cards everyone, including an autograph numbered to 100 of Hall of Famer Jim Otto (famous for wearing #00), as well as 11 minis, one of which being a green parallel mini of legendary running back Earl Campbell, numbered only 23 of 25! For free? I would not pass this lot up if I were you guys, without a doubt. All you have to do to win this big chunk of cards is leave a comment stating one thing you love about the hobby today as well as one thing you hate about it. That's it.

Group E: American Heroes/Best of the Rest
The final major group of cards you can take home is a bit of the miscellaneous stuff, but one big portion of this  43 card lot has to do with players who've been in the military during World War II and Vietnam, as well as 5 cards of former Presidents Reagan, Nixon, Kennedy, Ford, and Johnson (all of whom had a significant impact on the game at one point or another)! Besides those cards, you can find a green parallel of legendary kicker Morten Anderson numbered out of 25, and cards of many #1 Draft picks, NFL stars like Dante Hall, Kurt Warner, and Roger Craig, and many more! In order to take home this final lot, all you have to do is follow my blog and leave a comment saying that you did!

A few quick extra notes for you guys:
- If you plug the contest and advertise it on your own respective blog or site, and put it in with your contest submission, you will receive TWO additional entries to each group you put in for! So instead of getting the one chance for entering, you can have 3 chances to win each group! (Note: You must enter at least one group to gain the additional 2 entries)
- If 50 or more people enter this contest, I will throw everyone's name into a hat and whoever I pull will win the big pull of the box, a 1/1 cut autograph of Pro Football Hall of Fame head coach Hank Stram! This card can sell anywhere between $100 and $200 from what I've seen, so if you really want a chance to win it, plug this contest up!

- If 75 or more people enter, I will do the same as I can do with the cut, and the winner will receive a mystery group of cards from my collection. You can bet that there will be some pretty nice stuff in there! I don't know if we can get this many entries, especially for a football contest, but keep in mind the more you plug this contest on your own blog the better chance you have to win some nice prizes!

Also, please put all of your entries in one comment, just to make things easier. So, this is my gift to you guys, and I really hope you take advantage of some of these prizes! I don't care what you do with them if you win, because you guys deserve every bit of this! Thank you once again to the good folks at Tri-Star for providing my blog the opportunity to review this product, and well, best of luck to every person who enters!

CONTEST CLOSES: SATURDAY, JULY 21ST AT 8:00 PM! DON'T MISS OUT!

Thank you for every moment, and here's to another thousand!

See Ya!

Contest Winnings from Sports Card Haven!

Hey guys, Drew back here. I'm telling you, if you have never had the thrill of entering a contest on the blogs, I would highly consider you to do so. By entering you always have a chance to add new things to your collection for usually no cost whatsoever! Sometimes you get lucky and win, which is what I did in this, from the awesome guys over at sportscardhaven.com! Now, the thing with these guys that is awesome is that with every box they review, they give away one of the top cards to one of their fans, and all they have to do to enter is leave a comment about what they think of the product that was reviewed. I won one of their contests a while back for a Cano Allen & Ginter relic, and somehow I believe I managed to win two more, without even knowing! I received a very random package the other day that included these two cards, and I was stunned at the amount of luck I was able to bring out in these two respective contests.

For starters, the first prize was this green refractor autograph of Brett Wallace out of 2011 Topps Finest baseball! Wallace is stuck in a dismal lineup down in Houston, but although he hasn't quite panned out just yet for them, at the age of 25 with a lot of potential he can be a late bloomer without a doubt! This is an absolutely great looking card, and it was really my first look at Finest for the most part, because I rarely buy anything from that product. This card is indeed for trade if anybody is interested; if so just leave a comment and let me know.

However, as if that free autograph wasn't enough already, the icing on the cake was this 2011 Topps Update Robinson Cano All Star Workout relic! Not only is it a sweet relic, but it's also the Diamond parallel numbered 44 of 60, making it a really rare card! And to make matters even better, Cano is one of the main players I collect! How about that for some good luck? I already purchased the regular version of this card, but now I have one of the tougher parallels to go with it, because some great people were nice enough to extend their collection into their fellow collectors hands!

Thank you oh so much to Pinetarsports and the rest of the people at SCH! If you haven't given their site a look yet, please be sure to check it out sometime, because it's a great home for sports card news and reviews!

See Ya!

P.S.: Speaking of contests, be on the lookout for one coming very soon here at drewscards...

Cano Collection Heating Up!

Hey guys, Drew back here. Well, today started off extremely rough, with some very sad news regarding my family. However, while I have a little time to kill, lets take a look at some of my newest additions to my Robinson Cano collection!

Out of the new Topps Update series, I picked up this All Star game workout relic of his. Cano put on a clinic in the Home Run Derby this past season, and as soon as I saw that this card existed, I needed to grab a piece  of his jersey. I'm not quite sure when he wore this jersey but if its part of the jersey hes wearing in the picture on the card, well, that would be pretty sweet! I bought this one off of the bay a week or so ago, and I love the design of it for sure. For only a couple bucks, why not?

The second of my two recent pickups came courtesy of the good guys over at the Sports Card Haven! They get one box of majority of the newest products, and Ryan (pinetarsports on YouTube) breaks them live on video. I watch most of the breaks, and sometimes they pull some nice stuff. The catch is that they give away the best card in every box they open on the website, and all you have to do is leave a comment with a short review of the product they opened. Well, after they used some randomization tool, I ended up walking home a winner of the 2011 Allen & Ginter contest! And my prize you ask?

Just a bat card of my favorite player to collect. No big deal! Kidding aside, I love winning contests, they're great for the community and I like to support most of the people that run their own contests here and there. The best feeling is when you win something cool, and this certainly qualifies, as it adds yet another relic to my growing Cano PC! So, thank you so much to the guys at Sports Card Haven, I really appreciate it!

FYI, my contest should be coming within the next week, I've just been very busy and stressed out so I haven't gotten a chance to start it up yet!

See Ya!

GOLD!

After May 15th's crazy day we should have definitely had my dad hit up the lottery tickets! We entered all 3 door prizes, and we won all 3! One prize was the box of 2o10 Topps cards that was in like part 1 or 2, my dad won that. The first prize winner was me, and I won this...

I'll let the pics do the talking. Well, the Mets took my Yankees but a Yankee fan certainly took a Met! Sorry guys, it's not for trade by any means, it'll be in the collection for a lllllllonggggggg time!

My friend won this....

Yes, a Don Larsen auto inscribed with the perfect game date! This has a certificate too, just in case you're wondering.

We entered the contest with a minute or so to spare each time and got real lucky! Please comment and let me know what you think of these bad boys? See Ya!
