Just Checking In...

Hey everyone, Drew back here (finally)! I can't even begin to tell you where the last few months have taken me, and I have to say that while I missed all of my fantastic following; I don't know if I've ever been happier. My life has really taken a turn for the best thanks to letting certain people into my life and moving away from others that did nothing but simply cause me pain. But, I'm back for now, and I can't promise how often, or if this will be anything like it once was, but this is my way of saying hello, while also giving a special shoutout to my great friend William! While I've been gone, I hope you all have been catching up with him over at foul bunt, because he's had an awful lot of awesome stuff to share lately. Me on the other hand, not so much, other than what he recently spoiled me with! Speaking of which, let's take a look at some of what he surprised me with over the past month!

First are some really nice cards out of the new 2014 Bowman baseball product! He must've opened quite a bit of Bowman this year, since he sent me just about all of the Yankees base and prospects! I never would buy Bowman back in my card prime, however I always enjoyed looking back at the prospects a few years later and seeing which ones would pan out. The Yanks' new 3: Beltran, Ellsbury, and McCann have been really disappointing so far this season, but there is still plenty of time for redemption. It's a long season.

Next were some more cool Yankees (and Cano) out of this year's Series 2 set, mostly of the new offseason additions. I love getting cards of the new players regardless of whether I like them or not, because I tend to get kinda bored with the typical CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova cards (like the ones above), and I enjoy fresh faces on my cardboard! I still can't get used to seeing Robby as a Mariner, oh well.

Ahhhh, I didn't realize how horribly I cut off the bottom of this scan. We just got a new printer and scanner since the last one died out on us, and I'm still getting the hang of it. Anyway, these are some other 2014 Yankees (and again, one Cano) that I'll be adding to my Yankees box soon. The 1975 Topps Rudy May is a buyback, and I have to say they really serve no purpose in the hobby. It'd be nicer without the stamp on it, because if I was collecting the 1975 set I wouldn't be able to use that as May's card. I don't know, I'm a stickler like that. Boy, it was fantastic seeing Yogi at Old Timer's Day this past weekend. He always makes me smile, and I wish I could get the chance to meet him but its looking increasingly unlikely as days pass on.

Here are some more assorted Yankees, most from the newest Gypsy Queen. I love the look of the Gypsy Queen cards, but I feel like they're overdone also at this point. It's hard to argue with the look of that Jeter insert though (Happy 40th Jete, by the way!). It's sad seeing where Mason Williams is at at this point of his career, especially after meeting him and thinking so highly of him. He got a DUI last year, and ever since his hitting hasn't been nearly as consistent. But, just like Dellin Betances proved so far this year, there is always still a chance.

Wow, I love this guy. Tanaka has become my second favorite current Yankee (behind The Captain), and without his remarkable consistency I don't know where the team would be, but it certainly wouldn't be in the playoff hunt. It isn't looking likely that we'll see him pitch in the All Star game due to the Yankees scheduling conflicts, but it sure has been fun to watch him thus far! I got to see Tanaka pitch in person with my girlfriend on May 3rd, which didn't turn out to be his best start this season, but it resulted in a win nonetheless. Here he is from that day:

Again, he's awesome. And thanks to William, I now have his rookie card, so thank you so much for that! But, on top of it all, he decided to get me a graduation gift, one that I didn't see coming at all.

This beautiful Thurman Munson triple relic has a nice story behind it. William had pulled this out of a pack 4 years ago and has been taunting me with it ever since. We had planned on making a trade in which I'd give him a Ripken autograph in exchange for this card, but ever since I met Ripken I've had a hard time letting it go. Sure enough though, for my graduation, William hooked me up with this beauty, and I'm so excited to add it to my small Munson collection. I never got to see Thurman play obviously, but I loved ESPN's Bronx is Burning special and my dad always talked about how much he loved him, so it's really cool to have a piece of his history!

Thank you so much William for all of the great stuff, and especially for that Munson! I know you really liked it, so maybe one day I'll have to get the guts to give up my Ripken and complete that trade! I hope everyone is doing well, and I'm looking forward to trying to be more active, as I've lately been transferring a lot of my computer files over to my brand spankin new MacBook Pro I received from my parents as a graduation gift! Yeah, it's pretty sweet!

Since I didn't quite get the chance, I also wanted to offer my condolences to the Gwynn family. He was far too young, but Tony Gwynn's legacy will last forever.

See Ya!

Possible 2011 NL MVP eBay Pickup!

Hey guys, Drew back here. First off before I show off the newest addition to my PC, I just wanted to thank everyone for participating in the last Grandpa Roy post. You were able to nail all 4 pitchers that threw at least 2 no hitters in the same season (Virgil Trucks, Nolan Ryan, Allie Reynolds, Johnny Vander Meer), which was great! Of course, Roy Halladay could have been considered for this group since he threw 2 last year as well, but the question concerned the regular season pitchers, not including postseason play.

So, whenever a player gets hot, I always look on eBay to see how well their cards are selling, in fear that if I don't capture an autograph right then, I might be screwed when their prices go up. I picked up a few cards last week, and I got the first one in today, of one of the league's best all around 5 tool players!

This one, from 2010 Topps Tribute, is an autographed relic card numbered to 75 of Dodgers All Star Outfielder Matt Kemp! Kemp has been absolutely on a tear this season, currently batting .316 with 10  home runs, (oh wait, he hit another one today!) 32 RBI, and 12 Steals. He is almost a perfect baseball player, being able to hit for contact, power, steals bases, and is a great fielder, which are all of the most necessary tools. Even though he had an off year last year, I still feel like he will be one of the top players in the league for many years.

Anyway, the card is absolutely awesome looking, even though it doesn't really fit in with the rest of the cards in the set (minus Nick Markakis), because the rest feature the silver Topps stickers for the autographs rather than the clear ones. Regardless, the blue parallel always looks great on Dodgers cards, and all around, I'm pretty pumped with this new addition to the collection!

One by one I'm knocking the All Stars down, which is great! What do you think of Kemp?

See Ya!

The Godzilla of Baseball Cards Has Been Pulled!

Hey guys, Drew back here. A few months ago when 2010 Topps Tribute was first released, a collector in Missouri pulled one of the best redemptions imaginable. He recently received the 1/1 card, and since he is not a Yankees fan, he decided to put it up for sale. Beckett Select Auctions took over the auction for him to ensure security and trust in the buyer's mind. Well enough about the pull, take a look at this card!

Yes, that would be ONE card! This booklet cut autograph features 9 autographs, of the entire 1927 Yankees team lineup! So this means, that there are autographs of Yankee legends Earle Combs, Tony Lazzeri, Bob Meusel, Waite Hoyt, and oh, I forgot, Babe Ruth, and Lou Gehrig! No modern day card can top this baby, as I'm sure that it is the best card of 2010, and maybe of the 21st century!

The opening bid for the card is $20,000, so if you have thousands of dollars just sitting around, you may be able to own one of the most valuable cards ever produced! I would expect the card to sell for close to $50,000, as Ruth/Gehrig dual cuts have sold for about $15,000 alone. Throw in 7 other greats, and make a beautiful 1/1 booklet card and this thing will be one of the highest selling modern day cards.

A huge congrats to the person that pulled the card, I am EXTREMELY jealous! Here is the link to the auction, which started last night, and will end by around the 23rd.

See Ya!

Cliff Lee New Addition!

Hey guys, Drew back here! I'm just scheduling pretty much everything, posting a few things when I get the time, and over the weekend I can post more usually unless I'm busy then too. Anyways, here's a cool card I bought off eBay for less than $10 shipped! It's a great card and I'm glad to add it to the PC!

A 2010 Topps Tribute jersey auto /50 of the guy that dominated the Yankees in the World Series last year, and hopefully a Yankee in 2011, Cliff Lee! It's amazing how low this guy's autos sell for considering how great of a pitcher he is! If I could have 1 pitcher on my team on any day in the majors right now, CC Sabathia is my 1st pick, and Cliff Lee is right there at number 2. The way he can pitch complete games and strike out 10 guys is truly incredible, Sabathia, Lee, and Halladay have by far the best stamina in baseball!

So, it was $6.50 plus the typical $3 shipping, in my opinion, a total steal! See if you can find one of him for cheap, because he's totally worth the investment! See Ya!

eBay Pickup from foul bunt!

Hey guys, Drew back here. Just a quick little eBay post, William had some cards on the bay and I decided to help out, and made out well. As most of you, we're good buddies, and I try to help him out whenever he needs it, so here's what I bought:

First off, he included these for no cost, that he got at his card shop! Awesome! Only complaint is Topps, please never use that Gehrig picture again. NEVER. It seriously looks like he's taking a kick to the crotch! Anyways, the Munson and Mantles look great though.

I got these four for about $5, some 2010 Tribute cards! I love 2010 Tribute, and these are my first cards from it, and as you know, I loved 2009 Tribute. Examples: 1, 2, 3, 4. Well, anyway, that Gehrig is by far my favorite card of his I've ever seen, it's beautiful. The Ruth is up there on his list too, love the new shot, but I know I'll hate it by next year when Topps uses it for every single product he's in because people LIKEd the picture. The other two are masterpieces too, unbelievable, never seen anything like it! (tv reference)

And this was the main reason I had to help him out. This is my first Rizzuto relic card, a piece of bat, or wait, is it a Stadium seat? We may never know. If it is a bat, it sure is a great looking card, numbered to 99.

Overall, well, I like this year's set, but I might like the design of the hits from last year better than 2010, even though both would easily beat a Peak Performance jersey, or some of the other uglier designs of relics these days.

Thanks so much William for the great cards, I'm glad I can help! See Ya!
